Company Description:

Skyward, a subsidiary of Hunt Energy Company (Hunt Energy), is a technology-driven company at the forefront of networking and satellite connectivity solutions. We design and deliver purpose-built architectures for demanding use cases across industries, partnering closely with customers to define, develop, and deploy innovative technical products. Skyward is networking and telecommunications solutions provider, with a focus on outcome-based solutions that move businesses forward.ย  We specialize in remote connectivity and satellite internet with our partnership with Amazon Leo, but our approach goes beyond technology. We combine insight, planning, and accountability to deliver reliable connectivity anytime, any place. Skyward helps organizations simplify connectivity across planning, deployment, and operations, enabling teams to focus on results rather than infrastructure.ย

Position Summary:

The Director of Technology is a senior leadership role responsible for driving Skyward's technical vision and ensuring our products and solutions are built with excellence, scalability, and customer outcomes in mind. This individual will lead the software development team, shape hardware and networking architecture decisions, serve as a key technical voice with customers, and guide the definition and execution of Skyward's product solutions.

  • Evaluate and evolve the software technology stack to ensure scalability, maintainability, and performance.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top software engineering talent.

Hardware & Networking Architecture

  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to select appropriate hardware platforms, components, and configurations for specific deployment environments.
  • Stay current with advancements in satellite communication technologies (LEO, MEO, GEO), RF systems, and networking hardware.
  • Ensure hardware architectures meet performance, reliability, and cost targets across product lines.

Solution Architecture & Technical Strategy

  • Lead the design and definition of end-to-end solution architectures tailored to specific customer use cases and industry verticals.
  • Ensure architectures are built with security, redundancy, and scalability at their core.
  • Work with product and executive leadership to define the technical roadmap, ensuring alignment with business strategy and market needs.
  • Evaluate build vs. buy decisions for technology components, leading vendor and technology assessments.
  • Establish technical standards, reference architectures, and best practices across all Skyward products.

Customer Technical Engagement

  • Serve as the primary technical authority in customer-facing discussions, pre-sales engagements, and solution definition workshops.
  • Translate complex customer requirements into clear, actionable technical specifications and solution proposals.
  • Build credibility and trust with customer technical stakeholders at all levels, from engineers to CTOs.
  • Support the sales team with technical demonstrations, proof-of-concept engagements, and RFP/RFI responses.
  • Gather customer feedback and translate it into product and architecture improvements.

Product & Technical Solution Definition

  • Partner with product management to define product requirements, feature sets, and technical specifications.
  • Drive the development of technical documentation including solution briefs, architecture guides, and integration specifications.
  • Ensure that Skyward's technical solutions are clearly articulated and differentiated in the market.
  • Own the technical go-to-market narrative and support marketing and sales with compelling technical content.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 10+ years of progressive technical experience, with at least 3 years in a senior technical leadership role (Director, VP Engineering, CTO, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience leading and scaling software development teams using modern engineering practices.
  • Strong background in networking technologies, including LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, routing and switching protocols, and network security.
  • Hands-on experience with satellite connectivity technologies and platforms (e.g., Starlink, Viasat, Hughes, Intelsat, or similar).
  • Proven ability to design and implement complex, multi-layer solution architectures for enterprise or government customers.
  • Experience engaging directly with customers in a technical capacity, including pre-sales, solution design, and technical account management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field required.

Preferred Skills and Experience:ย
