Join our Team and Lead Successful Federal, Institutional & Ground-Up Commercial Projects!

Company: King Construction Services, Inc.

Role: Commercial Construction Superintendent

Location: Machias, ME / Coastal Maine Projects

Compensation: $110,000–$130,000 base salary + annual bonus / project completion bonus opportunities

Employment Type: Full-Time

Work Type: Onsite, regional travel as needed

Job Overview

King Construction Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced Commercial Construction Superintendent to lead onsite field operations for complex commercial, federal, institutional, healthcare, school, and public-sector construction projects across coastal Maine.

This is a hands-off Superintendent role for someone who can independently manage the jobsite, coordinate subcontractors, drive the schedule, maintain quality and safety standards, and keep projects moving without constant owner oversight.

Our work includes ground-up commercial construction, federal projects, institutional renovations, medical facilities, schools, Coast Guard/DHS-related work, Department of Interior / Acadia National Park projects, and other high-impact regional builds. Project sizes can range from approximately $500K to $40M, depending on scope.

This is a strong opportunity for a Superintendent who wants meaningful construction work, long-term stability, and the lifestyle benefits of coastal Maine.

About King Construction Services

King Construction Services, Inc. is a family-owned commercial general contractor based in Maine. We are known for high employee retention, a down-to-earth team culture, strong project execution, and a growing portfolio of commercial, federal, institutional, healthcare, education, and public-sector work.

Our projects are concentrated throughout coastal and Downeast Maine, including Ellsworth, Mount Desert Island / Acadia National Park, Machias, Calais, Eastport, Southwest Harbor, and surrounding regional markets. Most work is local or regional, and our team generally goes home at night.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead daily onsite operations for commercial, federal, institutional, healthcare, school, and public-sector construction projects.
  • Manage field execution from mobilization through closeout.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, field personnel, materials, equipment, inspections, and site logistics.
  • Maintain aggressive schedules while protecting quality and safety standards.
  • Read, interpret, and execute architectural drawings, specifications, schedules, RFIs, submittals, and project documents.
  • Identify field conflicts early and resolve issues before they delay the project.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, field documentation, and project updates through Procore or related systems.
  • Coordinate with project managers, ownership, subcontractors, vendors, clients, and inspectors.
  • Keep the jobsite organized, productive, safe, and aligned with King Construction’s quality expectations.
  • Represent King Construction professionally with clients, public-sector stakeholders, subcontractors, and project partners.

What We’re Looking For

  • Required Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a Superintendent, Field Superintendent, or construction field leader on commercial construction projects.
  • Strong background managing subcontractors and field crews.
  • Ability to run a jobsite independently without constant owner direction.
  • Strong plan-reading skills and the ability to execute from commercial architectural drawings and specifications.
  • Experience managing project schedules, material coordination, site logistics, quality control, and safety expectations.
  • Strong communication skills with subcontractors, project managers, clients, and internal leadership.
  • Strong documentation habits and ability to keep project information accurate and current.
  • Ability to work onsite across regional Maine project locations.
  • Ability to pass required background screening for federal/base-access projects when applicable.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • 8+ years of commercial construction supervision experience.
  • Experience with federal, municipal, institutional, healthcare, school, Coast Guard, DHS, Department of Interior, National Park Service, or other public-sector projects.
  • Experience managing ground-up commercial construction.
  • Procore experience.
  • Microsoft Project or comparable scheduling software experience.
  • Experience managing projects in the $500K–$40M range.
  • Maine or New England commercial construction experience.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Long-term interest in living and working in coastal Maine.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $110,000–$130,000 base salary, depending on experience.
  • Annual bonus and performance-based project completion bonus opportunities.
  • Weekly pay cycle.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid time off, including vacation, holidays, and sick time.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer match.
  • Company vehicle.
  • Company-provided smartphone or tablet.
  • Per diem support for approved out-of-town assignments.
  • Training and career development, including safety, OSHA, fall protection, lift training, and manufacturer standards.
  • Company uniforms.
  • Annual company outings and team events.
  • Potential relocation or housing support may be available for the right candidate, if approved based on circumstances.

Why This Role Matters

This role is not for someone who wants to be micromanaged. The right Superintendent will be trusted to own the field, drive the schedule, solve problems, and keep the project moving.

A strong fit is someone who:

  • Takes pride in building meaningful projects.
  • Can manage both people and process.
  • Understands commercial construction complexity.
  • Communicates clearly but does not need constant handholding.
  • Enjoys the Maine lifestyle, including access to the coast, boating, fishing, hunting, hiking, and Acadia National Park.
  • Wants to build a long-term career with a stable, respected Maine contractor.
