Job description

POSITION GOAL:
The Civil Engineer Associate l will perform basic engineering duties associated with the construction or civil engineering projects. This position will support all aspects of design projects for roadways, utilities, sewers, bridges, etc.; prepare schematics & models; perform analysis & engineering calculations; develop plans, specifications & estimates; prepare technical engineering reports; perform construction management for various projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform fundamental design and modeling tasks and assist in preparing permit applications, CAD, or GIS work.
• Participate in data research, collection, and compilation efforts.
• Analyze and correlate scientific engineering data and recognize discrepancies in results using a series of related detailed steps or processes.
• Assist in the preparation of reports, studies, and technical memoranda.
• Review the accuracy and viability of designs, data, reports, and other documents before submitting them to the next review level.
• Participate in ensuring proper quality assurance and quality control on assigned projects to align with industry and client standards and expectations.
• Adhere to project deadlines and keep the Supervisor informed of any difficulties encountered on assignments.
• Ability to collaborate on projects to achieve a quality product in accordance with the schedule.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of mathematics including trigonometry and its application to field surveying and engineering computations.

Work environment
  • General office environment requiring long periods of sitting at computer. The environmental conditions generally include ambient inside temperature, lighting and noise level
  • Due to the collaborative nature of this position and accessibility for in-house meetings, it is important that the work may need to be performed in the office and during normal business hours

Physical demands
  • Must be able to sit, walk, stand, reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel, climb, or balance, talk or hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects tools or control
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on occasion

Additional eligibility requirements
  • Spatial and design skills to be visualize projects in 2d and 3d
  • Experience with Bentley Suite of products including MicroStation and ProjectWise, AutoCad
  • Knowledge of local government agency standards, specifically IDOT and Illinois Tollway
  • DB Sterlin Consultants requires full Covid-19 vaccinated status as condition of employment with the company as per requirements of the law
