Family Health Centers at NYU Langone, a designated Level 3 Medical Home, is the largest federally qualified health center network in New York State, and the second largest in the nation. It includes eight primary care sites, 40 school-based health centers and dental clinics, four day care centers, the nation's largest dental residency program, and New York State's largest behavioral health program. The network also includes 12 community medicine sites providing care to disenfranchised New Yorkers, comprehensive HIV services, chemical dependency programs, and a family support center that offers educational, vocational, and other social support programs. Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Associate Chief, Dental Services.
In this role, the successful candidate The Associate Chief of the dental service line is a senior clinician with overall clinical responsibility for the Family Health Centers dental and educational program and leading clinical and resident staff to ensure high-quality, compliant, and financially sustainable dental care. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with all internal and external regulations and guidelines, keeping current with industry standards for dental care and service delivery, oversight of all quality assurance and risk management activities, developing and implementing policies, managing clinical budgets, strategic planning for service expansion and growth.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Leadership and Oversight:Ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based dental care by setting evidence-based standards, conducting peer reviews, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives. This involves overseeing compliance with regulations and maintaining a culture of patient safety in the context of a Federally Qualified Health Center and an Academic Health System. 
  • Quality & Performance Improvement: Leading initiatives for quality management, patient safety programs, utilization review, and clinical effectiveness, often utilizing data to measure and report outcomes and implement improvements.  Implement strategies that strive to exceed national key performance indicators and benchmarks that position the dental program to be a national leader in quality outcomes and residency training. 
  • Strategic and Operational Leadership:Develop and guide the strategic direction of dental clinical practices, including expansion, service offerings, and operational efficiency. This includes managing the dental clinical budget and collaborating with other senior leaders and the Senior Dental Operations Director to achieve organizational goals. 
  • Staff and Team Management:Oversee the recruitment, hiring, credentialing, training, and performance evaluation of dentist, resident and other dental clinic directors to ensure a well-qualified and motivated team.  Establish performance metrics and goals to track, monitor and report on provider and resident performance. 
  • Population Health and Community Engagement:Develop and implement strategies to improve population health outcomes and access to care, especially for underserved populations. This can include community outreach programs and brings situational awareness to the requirements of an FQHC, government payors (Medicaid/Medicare), commercially insured populations, and pay-for-performance contracts. 
  • Financial Management:Collaborate with the Senior Dental Operations Director, FHC finance and revenue cycle departments, on billing, coding, and reimbursement to maximize revenue while ensuring regulatory compliance.  This includes managing provider compliance with set policies to ensure clinical services are authorized in advance of treatment, and encounters are billed and closed timely in accordance with established standards.  
  • Research: Work closely with the FHC CMO in codeveloping grants that align operational, educational, and strategic priorities for the overall organization. 
  • Reporting and Compliance:Ensure that all dental records are properly documented and maintained.   Oversee compliance with all regulatory requirements. Prepare periodic reports as needed.  
  • Innovation & Technology: Staying updated on the latest dental advancements and technology, advising on new medical innovations and clinical decision support systems designed to improve services and efficiency. 
  • Dental Medical Education: Works with Residency Directors and the Senior Operations Director to ensure the needs of the residencies and the health center are aligned and met.   
  • Direct Patient Care:   The Associate Chief will be expected to provide direct dental patient care.    

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have a Graduate degree from an accredited dental school. 
A current dental license in the state of New York.
5+ years of practicing dental clinic experience
Significant clinical and leadership experience with oversight of multiple clinics at a group practice, FQHC, educational system, etc.
Key Skills:

Strong understanding of dental principles and treatment procedures, compliance, patient safety, and quality management principles.

Fosters a culture of vigilance and safety throughout the program.

Held leadership role(s) in multi clinic systems and a strong understanding of dental residency training programs.
Experience working in multidisciplinary settings working collaboratively to achieve goals that bridge medicine, dental, behavioral health, pediatric and other services..
Required Licenses: NYS Dental License
