Job description

Club Manager

Private Country Club | Rochester, NY – West Side
Starting Salary: $100,000 + Performance Incentives

The Opportunity

A premier private country club on Rochester's west side is seeking an experienced, hospitality-driven Club Manager to lead its food & beverage, member experience, events, and sales operations.

This is a highly visible leadership role for someone who understands that exceptional club hospitality is about more than great food and service—it's about creating an experience that makes members feel known, welcomed, and genuinely excited to be part of the club.

The Club Manager will have significant ownership over the day-to-day operation and long-term success of the club, leading teams across dining, bar, banquet, culinary, event, and sales functions. Working closely with ownership and club leadership, this person will help shape the member experience, strengthen operations, develop a high-performing team, and identify opportunities to grow revenue and engagement.

We're looking for a leader who is equally comfortable building relationships with members, developing staff, reviewing financials, overseeing a major event, and jumping into the operation when needed.

If you're energized by hospitality, thrive in a relationship-driven environment, and want the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a respected private club, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll LeadClub Operations & Member Experience

You'll oversee the daily operations of the club's Grill Room, Bar, Kitchen, Banquet Facilities, 9½ Grill, golf tournament hospitality, and sales functions.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Creating an exceptional, welcoming experience for members and their guests
  • Establishing and maintaining outstanding standards for service, food quality, beverage programs, cleanliness, and presentation
  • Building strong relationships with members and proactively responding to feedback
  • Ensuring a personalized, high-touch hospitality experience throughout the club
  • Developing and maintaining policies, procedures, and service standards
  • Identifying opportunities to increase member engagement and club utilization
  • Ensuring club programming, dining, events, and activities consistently reflect the club's culture and standards
Build & Lead an Exceptional Team

Great hospitality starts with a great team. You'll set the tone for a professional, positive, accountable, and service-driven culture.

You'll:

  • Recruit, train, mentor, and develop managers and staff
  • Establish clear expectations and hold teams accountable to service standards
  • Create an environment where employees feel supported and motivated to deliver their best
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and development
  • Build strong collaboration between front-of-house, culinary, events, sales, and club leadership
Food, Beverage & Culinary Leadership

You'll provide leadership across the club's dining and beverage operations, partnering closely with the Executive Chef and/or Kitchen Manager to deliver an outstanding and consistent culinary experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining exceptional food quality, creativity, consistency, and presentation
  • Ensuring menus remain fresh, relevant, and seasonally appropriate
  • Managing wine, beer, and spirits programs, including purchasing, inventory, and pricing
  • Developing creative beverage offerings, tastings, and special member experiences
  • Maintaining exceptional standards for service, cleanliness, uniforms, and professional presentation
  • Ensuring compliance with health, sanitation, safety, and responsible alcohol service requirements
Events, Banquets & Tournaments

From weddings and private celebrations to golf tournaments and signature club events, you'll help ensure every event reflects the level of hospitality members and guests expect.

You'll partner with the events and sales teams to:

  • Oversee the planning, staffing, and execution of banquet and club events
  • Ensure seamless communication between sales, culinary, service, and operations teams
  • Deliver memorable experiences for private functions, weddings, tournaments, and member events
  • Identify opportunities to improve both the guest experience and profitability of events
Sales & Business Development

You'll provide leadership and accountability for the club's sales efforts, working closely with the Sales Manager to build event business and strengthen the club's presence in the market.

You'll:

  • Partner with the Sales Manager to establish annual sales and marketing goals, budgets, and strategies
  • Hold regular sales meetings to review pipeline, activity, opportunities, and results
  • Encourage proactive business development and pursuit of new event opportunities
  • Ensure the club maintains an effective, user-friendly website and strong digital presence
  • Oversee effective marketing, promotional, and social media strategies
  • Establish clear sales goals and monitor performance throughout the year
Financial & Operational Performance

You'll take an active role in ensuring the club delivers both an exceptional experience and strong financial performance.

You'll:

  • Develop and manage annual food & beverage budgets
  • Partner with the Sales Manager on annual event sales and marketing budgets
  • Monitor revenue, labor, inventory, expenses, and profitability
  • Maintain effective food and beverage cost controls
  • Review financial reports and identify opportunities to improve performance
  • Balance smart cost management with the high service standards expected in a private club environment
What We're Looking For

We're seeking an established hospitality leader who understands how to combine operational excellence with exceptional relationship-building.

The ideal candidate brings:

  • 5–10 years of progressive leadership experience in food & beverage or hospitality management
  • Private club, luxury hospitality, resort, hotel, restaurant, or similar high-touch service experience strongly preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
  • Proven experience leading, developing, and motivating hospitality teams
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, labor management, inventory, and cost controls
  • Experience overseeing events and banquet operations
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and sound judgment
  • The ability to build authentic relationships with members while maintaining professionalism and discretion
  • A hands-on leadership style and willingness to be visible and engaged throughout the club
The Right Leadership Style

Success in this role requires someone who is present, approachable, proactive, and accountable.

You enjoy being on the floor and interacting with members just as much as you enjoy developing strategy behind the scenes. You notice the details. You anticipate problems before they become problems. You develop people rather than simply manage them.

Most importantly, you understand that in a private club environment, relationships matter.

Schedule

Private club hospitality doesn't always operate on a traditional Monday–Friday schedule. This leadership position requires flexibility based on club operations and events, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Starting salary of $100,000, with compensation based on experience
  • Performance incentive opportunity
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Club privileges, as applicable
Why This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to step into a meaningful leadership position with the ability to influence nearly every aspect of the club experience.

You'll have the autonomy to develop people, strengthen operations, elevate hospitality, grow event business, and help shape what's next for the club—all while becoming a trusted and visible leader within the club community.
