Job Description

DESCRIPTION

The Department of Strategic Communication invites applications for a Teaching faculty position in Public Relations with an emphasis on the use of strategic research to inform messaging and campaigns, especially in utilization of emerging AI tools and practices. The ideal candidate would bring professional experience and current industry expertise in public relations. Although this role is primarily focused on public relations, the faculty member would contribute to the broader Department of Strategic Communication, which includes the major in Advertising as well as a MA in Strategic Communication & Media.

An ideal candidate would bring expertise in teaching applied audience research, generative AI, and campaign design courses. In addition to their teaching responsibilities, the Teaching faculty member in Public Relations will actively contribute to the Department of Strategic Communication through essential service activities. This includes participating in admissions open houses to engage prospective students and promote the department's programs, assisting with departmental events that enhance the student and faculty community, and supporting extracurricular initiatives such as PRSSA, the Advertising Club, and Hawk Communications (student-led public relations agency). The faculty member will also provide academic advising to guide students in course selection and degree planning. By engaging in these activities, the prospective faculty member will play a vital role in fostering student success, strengthening departmental visibility, and enhancing the overall educational experience for Strategic Communication majors.

The position is a two-year, ten-month, non-tenure track (NTT) appointment, with eligibility for reappointment based on established NTT procedures.

Offering degrees in Film and Television, Social Media and Public Relations, Advertising, Journalism and Digital Media, Sports Communication, Communication and Media Studies, Animation and VFX, and an online MA devoted to strategic communication, the College prepares the next generation of communication and media practitioners and leaders. QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:

Bachelor's degree in communication, public relations, or a related field is required.

Professional work experience in public relations.

Ability to teach the dynamic shifts in the public relations industry, including the applications of empirical research and emerging digital tools and techniques.

PREFERRED:

Master's degree in communication, public relations, or a related field.

Experience teaching public relations or strategic communications.

Active industry contacts who can be engaged to meet our students.
