Job description

Job Summary: Under direction of supervisory staff, performs waived and moderately complex laboratory procedures
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Follows all PPE requirements and all safety regulations. Consistently employs Universal Precautions through all phases of specimen handling, processing, testing and disposal.
  • Goes through the pending logs and finds missing samples
  • Performs laboratory tasks such as printing extra labels, recording data (temperature charts) specimen storage, retrieval and disposal.
  • Preparing specimens at workstations for testing. Including building worklists and aliquoting specimens into sample tubes
  • Creating a batch sheet using Excel
  • Assist in Laboratory prep, clean up and decontaminates work area
  • Goes through the pending logs and finds missing samples.
  • Prioritizes work to give prompt attention to stat and expedite specimens as well as those requiring special handling.
  • Restocking lab supplies and maintains an appropriate inventory of supplies at all times.
  • Report low inventory of supplies to the Group Leader of Lab Services.
  • Remove expired laboratory stock and equipment according to established disposal procedures.
  • Uses the laboratory computer system as well as operates PCs.
  • Completes training and competency checklists as appropriate. Assists technologists and technicians with the operation of standard laboratory instruments
  • Perform routine laboratory assistant duties according to agency standards and protocols
  • All other assignments as directed by management

Requirements
  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred
  • Understanding of laboratory quality control and assurance
  • Knowledge of general laboratory safety issues and universal precautions
  • Proficient computer and data entry skills
  • Strong interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to work proficiently and efficiently in a timely manner
  • Must be well organized and detail oriented
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to completing assigned task
  • Must have the ability to establish work priorities and to handle several tasks for maximum workstation efficiency.
  • Must be able to retain information once learned.
  • Must interact with other coworkers, internal and external customers with courtesy and respect.
  • High School Diploma or higher
  • 3-6 months experience working in a similar role
