Job Purpose:

This position partners with and supports up to two Portfolio Managers in the day-to-day management of commercial loan portfolios, with a strong emphasis on timely financial information collection, borrower interaction, proactive portfolio oversight and compliance with internal loan policies and procedures as well as regulatory expectations. Will communicate directly with borrowers to set expectations, clarify reporting requirements, and facilitate timely financial submission. This role requires professional presence, confident communication and the ability to build trust while reinforcing structure and accountability.

The role is structured as a developmental pipeline for future Sales Portfolio Managers roles. Role provides hands-on exposure to portfolio structuring, client dialogue, transaction flow, and internal coordination required for long-term advancement within Commercial Banking.

Job Duties:

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for borrowers regarding contractual or defined financial reporting requirement, including financial statements, tax returns, borrowing base certificates and other pertinent financial information, as requested.
  • Deliver prompt, proactive and high-quality support to Portfolio Managers, Relationship Managers and Credit Officers to ensure efficient operations and client service.
  • Build professional rapport and proactively communicate with borrowers while reinforcing contractual reporting expectations, timelines and follow up needs.
  • Will demonstrate discretion, confidence and clarity in customer-facing conversations; manage sensitive discussions regarding past-due reporting or documentation expectations with professionalism
  • Maintain accurate tracking of financial reporting requirements, due dates, covenant compliance deadlines and exceptions.
  • Ensure credit files and documentation are accurate, complete, audit-ready and current with nCino’s DocMan and imaging system.
  • Must ensure timeliness review of received financial statements for completeness, internal consistency, and adherences to required quality and format (Accountant, CPA – prepared, audited, reviewed, compiled, or internally prepared or tax returns).
  • Flag potential issues such as late submissions, recurring exceptions or missing documentation for escalation to Portfolio Managers, Relationship Managers and/or Credit Officers.
  • Collect, organize and coordinate preliminary analysis of borrower financial information; identify concerns and escalate to the Portfolio Manager as appropriate.
  • Maintain tickler system for borrower financial information to ensure that financials are received when required.
  • Support Portfolio Manager with ongoing portfolio monitoring, including covenant compliance tracking and performance trend review.
  • Assist with renewals extensions, waivers and modifications by gathering documentation, initiating processes in the loan origination system (nCino) and coordinating follow up items.
  • Act as a liaison between Portfolio Managers and internal partners including Underwriting, Closing, Insurance Tracking and Client Advisor Team.
  • Track Maturing loans, delinquencies, insurance coverage, property tax compliance and ongoing loan conditions; escalate issues as needed.
  • Participate in borrower and internal meetings alongside Portfolio Managers to build confidence in relationship management, customer-facing communication experience and issue resolution.
  • Serves as operational backup to assigned Portfolio Managers, maintaining continuity of workflow during absences or peak periods.
  • Develop proficiency and gain increasing exposure in portfolio strategy, decision making, client communication and transaction execution.
  • Demonstrated growth in independent portfolio coordination responsibilities and readiness to assume increase Portfolio Manager responsibilities.
  • Assist with audits, loan reviews and examiner requests.
  • Maintain compliance with bank policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Will perform special projects as assigned.

Education, Job Skills and Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience with a specialization in accounting, finance or business operations. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3+ years’ experience in commercial portfolio monitoring or commercial lending related position preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage high volumes of deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and strong documentation discipline.
  • Ability to review financial statements and tax returns.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to exercise discretion and sound judgement.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate viewpoint and make independent decisions.
  • Proficient with Microsoft suite of products and commercial loan origination software platforms. NCino experience a plus.
  • Travel may be required throughout Peoples Bank footprint of offices; Must have valid driver’s license.

Basic Qualifications:
