Job description

General Function: Job duties include but are not limited to: Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Laboratory Director, Assistant laboratory Director, Administrative Medical Technologist and/or section supervisors, obtains laboratory specimens while providing excellent customer service. Implements the hospital's mission, goals, and objectives and exemplifies the vision, values and goals of the department and hospital by providing exceptional professional clinical laboratory science services.
II. Position Specifications:
A. Educational Requirements:
  1. High School diploma or equivalent
  2. National Certification preferred but not required
B. Experience Requirements:
  1. Minimum of one-year phlebotomy experience preferred but not required
  2. Previous admissions experience preferred but not required
  3. Experience with computers preferred but not required
  4. Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and insurance regulations preferred but not required
C. Special Requirements:
  1. CPR Certification within 4 weeks of start date. Must maintain an activate CPR license at all times while at work.
  2. Excellent customer service skills
  3. Must walk up and down two flights of stairs caring a phlebotomy tray
  4. Medium lifting- generally up to 50 lbs.
  5. Must be able to multi-task and work at a fast pace.
  6. Work alternating shifts, holidays and weekends.

III. Job Hazards:
A. Potential for blood and body fluid, noise, chemical, odor and gas exposures
B. Potential for increased stress levels
C. Physical injury/verbal abuse from out of control patients
