Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) seeks for the position of Lead Flight Dispatcher within the Flight Department on the Daytona Beach Campus. This position serves as a key operational leader responsible for supporting Flight Dispatch and Ramp Operations while ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective utilization of university aircraft, facilities, and resources.

Reporting to the Flight Dispatch/Ramp Operations Manager, the Lead Flight Dispatcher provides daily operational oversight, coordinates aircraft and maintenance resources, supports dispatch functions, and serves as a subject matter expert for dispatch procedures and customer service operations. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, organizational abilities, decision-making skills, and a commitment to customer service excellence in a fast-paced aviation environment.

Primary Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead daily Flight Dispatch and Ramp Operations activities.

  • Coordinate aircraft availability, maintenance scheduling, and resource allocation.

  • Monitor flight operations and ensure compliance with safety, security, and TSA requirements.

  • Investigate operational disruptions, incidents, and aircraft cancellations; recommend process improvements.

  • Serve as the primary liaison between dispatch, maintenance, and flight operations teams.

  • Manage dispatch communications, including phone, email, and customer inquiries.

  • Support and maintain operational technology systems used in flight dispatch and tracking.

  • Ensure facilities, equipment, and operational areas remain safe and functional.

  • Adjust schedules and resources in response to weather, maintenance, and operational needs.

  • Maintain fleet records, aircraft documentation, and safety kit compliance.

  • Lead training, mentoring, and onboarding efforts for dispatch personnel.

  • Provide dispatch desk coverage and operational support during peak periods and staffing shortages.

  • Serve as acting supervisor in the absence of the Dispatch Manager.

  • Assist with special projects, visiting aircraft operations, and departmental initiatives.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of related experience in aviation operations, customer service, administrative support, flight dispatch, or a related field.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain TSA security clearance.

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Experience working in fast-paced operational environments requiring multitasking and independent decision-making.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to maintain professionalism while interacting with students, instructors, parents, alumni, guests, and other stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks, adapt to changing operational requirements, and work effectively under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of Flight Operations experience.

  • Two years of customer service experience.

  • Experience coordinating aircraft maintenance activities, dispatch functions, or airport operations.

  • Experience mentoring, training, or leading employees in an aviation environment.

  • Knowledge of FAA operational requirements and aviation safety practices.
