Position Overview

General Laborer with Underground Utility Experience


The General Laborer will assist excavation crews with watermain and underground utility installation, repair, and maintenance projects. This position requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions and supporting crews with trenching, grading, pipe installation, and job site operations. Regular & Timely attendance is essential.


Compensation

• Full Time

• $22-$26 per hour


Responsibilities

• Assist with installation of watermain systems, underground utilities, and related infrastructure

• Perform, trenching, shoring, pipe laying, backfilling, grading and site cleanup

• Work alongside excavator operators and pipe crews during utility installation projects

• Assist with locating, measuring and grading utility lines

• Operate hand tools, compactors, saws, pumps, and other construction equipment safely

• Maintain safe work zones and follow all OSHA and company safety procedures

• Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment

• Help maintain equipment and ensure job sites remain organized and clean

• Identify and work around existing underground utilities

• Perform general labor duties as assigned by supervisors or foreman


Qualifications

• High school or GED level education preferred

• 2 + years of experience in an underground utility construction-related field

• Experience with watermain installation preferred

• Knowledge of excavation and trench safety practices

• Must possess knowledge of equipment and workplace safety

• Ability to read grade stakes, utility markings, and basic construction plans is a plus

• Familiarity with water, sewer and storm utility systems

• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and seasons

• Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding work

• Strong work ethic and reliability

• A valid driver’s license

• Must be able to pass drug test in accordance with local law/regulations

• Ability to also work independently, with accuracy and in accordance with company safety and quality standards

• Ability to work effectively as part of a crew

• Follow instructions given both orally or in writing

• Must be able to communicate with other employees for the purpose of hazard recognition, problem solving, and other purposes

• Understanding of underground utility installation procedures

• Mechanical aptitude and experience using construction tools
