Thompson Excavation – one of the fastest-growing, employee-owned excavation companies in the Midwest is currently on the lookout for an experienced Operator to assist with our ongoing and future projects! Job Overview:
As an Operator, your primary job will be to assist with all facets of Thompson’s excavation, earthmoving and dirt work projects by safely operating and maintaining various types of equipment, such as Backhoes, Excavators, Rock Trucks, Skid Steers, Rollers, Tractors, Dozers and more.
Typical duties of an Operator:
  • Working with Superintendent to safely amp; effectively plan projects
  • Preparing construction sites for building, earthmoving or demolition
  • Reading construction plans, blueprints and other project details
  • Preparing digs for mainline utility installation and/or removal
  • Utilizing GPS systems, pipe lasers, rotary lasers and surface levels
  • Grading of building pads using stakes w/ topographic shots
  • Ensuring loads are properly secure to prevent accidents or damage
  • Performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment
  • Helping to ensure general labor crews remain engaged and on task
  • Assisting with general labor duties as directed by supervisor
Requirements:
  • Operator I: At least 1-2 years of heavy equipment operation
  • Operator II: At least 2-4 years of heavy equipment operation
  • Operator III: At least 4-6 years of heavy equipment operation
  • Extensive knowledge of construction practices and procedures
  • Strong mechanical aptitude relating to heavy equipment
  • Able to calculate run/rise percentage using data from GPS
  • Able to read cut sheets, grade stakes and GPS coordinates
  • Able to follow all industry and company-mandated safety guidelines
  • Must possess a Valid Driver’s License or State ID
  • Must obtain a 10-Hour OSHA Certification (will train, if nec)
  • Must obtain a CPR amp; First Aid Certification (will train, if nec)
