Job description

Summary

Under general supervision, assist in various administrative and data collection aspects of clinical research studies, attend various oncology-related learning opportunities, both clinical and didactic. This position is specifically aimed at those who are in an interim year (or "gap year") between an undergraduate and a doctorate program (Medical School, PhD program, etc.) This position is intended to provide professional growth through relevant experience, further preparing the candidate for their advanced studies.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Accurately enter research data onto case report forms or specified programs (OnCore) and other databases as appropriate under the direction of the research nurse or study coordinator.

  • Under the direct guidance, assist with coordination of basic study activities.

  • Prepare specimen tubes prior to lab draw and transport specimens from lab to process and send out

  • Assist with processing of lab specimens in preparation for send out or storage.

  • Prepare shipping labels and document labels for both data and specimens.

  • Coordinate patient visits to clinic. Organize study participant charts and files, and Coordinate patient visits to clinic. Organize study participant charts and files, and distribute to appropriate location

  • Collect required data from study coordinators and research nurses, and enter onto clinical research forms and into computerized database

  • Order and maintain log of stipend checks and/or gift certificates to be distributed to study participants. Verify accuracy of bills and stipends

  • Generate letters to be sent to study participants

  • Under the direction of the study coordinator or principal investigator, assist in enrolling patients in educational and social intervention research studies. Contact patients as required after initial contact to obtain additional information

  • Provide general clerical support to nurses and investigators

  • Compile outreach packets, recruitment and specimen collection kits

  • Participate in hands-on and didactic oncology-related learning opportunities including but not limited to surgical oncology, radiation oncology, medical oncology, basic science, and community outreach.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities
  • Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.

  • Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.

Qualifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree in scientific or related field

Minimum Required Experience: 1 year

Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in scientific or related field

Preferred Experience: Research, clinical care or systems and data management experience

Required Certification/Licensure(s): CITI training within 90 days of hire

Physical Requirements

Work involves light exertion transporting materials or equipment but not for sustained time.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
