Job Details:

PURPOSE

The Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist is responsible for managing and organizing healthcare data and information within the healthcare system. This role ensures the accuracy, privacy, and security of patient records, supports healthcare providers with access to necessary information, and assists in data analysis for informed decision-making. The HIM Specialist reports to the HIM Manager and works closely with clinical staff, IT professionals, and administrative personnel.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage and Organize Healthcare Data

  • Create and maintain electronic health records (EHRs).
  • Code diagnoses and procedures for billing purposes.
  • Verify the accuracy of patient records.

Ensure Privacy and Security

  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
  • Implement security measures to protect patient information.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure data integrity.

Support Healthcare Providers

  • Provide access to patient records and information.
  • Assist with data retrieval and reporting.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure accurate documentation.

Analyze and Interpret Data

  • Identify trends and patterns in healthcare data.
  • Generate reports for decision-making.
  • Use data analysis to improve patient care and operations.

Provide Training and Education

  • Train healthcare professionals on data management practices.
  • Update staff on changes in regulations and technologies.
  • Develop educational materials and resources.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • At least 2 year(s) of experience in health information management.
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or a related field
  • At least 4 year(s) of experience in including experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA) certification.
SALARY RANGE

$34,864+ depending on qualifications
