Job description

Job Summary
The provision of optimum assistance to the Physical Therapist in the treatment of the patient.
Responsibilities
• Perform physical therapy procedures and related tasks under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
• Responsible for patient's personal care, safety, and environment throughout the treatment. Observe patient's condition, reactions and/or responses reporting these to the supervising Physical Therapist.
• Follow any established procedures and observe safety precautions in the application of physical therapy modalities and techniques.
• Adjust a specific treatment procedure in accordance with changes in patient status with prior approval by the supervising Physical Therapist.
• Maintain accurate and timely progress notes and record within established guidelines.
• Refer all inquiries regarding patient prognosis to the supervising physical therapist.
• Instruct patients/families when information is standardized.
• Responsible for professional growth and act in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the APTA.
• Has knowledge of and adhere to CAMC and department policies and procedures.
• Participate in staff meetings, patient rounds, inservices and other educational activities.
• Delegate routine, operational functions to Therapy Technicians within the department.

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.
