Job description

Regional Controller

Position Overview

As a Regional Controller, you'll lead all accounting and financial operations for an assigned region across Modigent’s portfolio of companies. This strategic leadership role oversees the full spectrum of regional financial activities—including month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, compliance, project accounting, and internal controls—while serving as a key business partner to regional operations, sales, HR, and the broader finance organization. You’ll drive accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement in a dynamic, multi-entity, project-based environment, contributing directly to regional performance and overall company success.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the monthly general ledger close process, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and timely financial reporting for the region.
  • Oversee year-end audit processes, prepare supporting schedules, coordinate with external auditors, and ensure smooth and timely completion of audits.
  • Ensure all accounting activities comply with U.S. GAAP, internal controls, corporate policies, and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Support financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, planning, and cost control initiatives to provide actionable insights for regional leadership.
  • Collaborate closely with operations, sales, project management, HR, and shared services teams to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and accuracy of accounting processes.
  • Partner with operations on project financial management, including project setup and closure, revenue recognition, percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP analysis, under/over billings, change orders, forecast accuracy, and warranty provisions.
  • Assist in the maintenance and utilization of financial planning tools, including monthly data uploads, account mapping, scenario modeling, and reporting support.
  • Manage regional receivables processes, sales and use tax compliance, business insurance renewals, and other operational finance activities.
  • Develop, document, and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and controls to mitigate risks and support scalable growth.
  • Perform ad-hoc financial analysis, special projects, and other responsibilities as requested to support business objectives.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Yes – Provides functional leadership and may directly or indirectly oversee regional accounting staff or shared resources. Offers guidance and collaboration with corporate finance, shared services, and operational leadership.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Experience: 5–7+ years of progressive senior accounting, Assistant Controller, or Controller experience, preferably in a construction, mechanical services, infrastructure, project-based, or multi-entity environment.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Physical Demands: Primarily office-based with occasional travel; standard office mobility (sitting, computer use, light lifting lt;20 lbs).
  • Work Environment/Safety: Professional office setting with hybrid options; adherence to ergonomic practices and corporate safety standards.

Required Skills

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge with hands-on experience in construction/project accounting (revenue recognition, job costing, WIP, percentage-of-completion).
  • Proficiency with ERP/accounting software such as Sage Intacct or similar platforms used in project-oriented industries.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to build strong cross-functional relationships.
