AI Governance professional establishes frameworks, policies, and controls to ensure artificial intelligence is used ethically, safely, and legally. Key duties include conducting AI risk assessments, monitoring bias/fairness, ensuring regulatory compliance (e.g., EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF), and managing AI inventories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Policy & Framework Development: Creating policies and standards addressing fairness, transparency, accountability, and safety for AI, including generative AI (GenAI) and agentic systems.
  • AI Risk Management & Audits: Conducting risk assessments to identify threats such as prompt injection, model drift, algorithmic bias, and data privacy issues.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Alignment: Ensuring compliance with emerging AI regulations, such as the EU AI Act, and implementing frameworks like ISO/IEC 42001 or NIST AI RMF.
  • Operationalization: Building and maintaining AI inventories, documenting "intended use," and integrating governance checkpoints into the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partnering with Legal, Risk, Compliance, Engineering, and Data Science teams to embed guardrails into AI deployment.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Expertise in AI/ML & GenAI: Understanding of LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and data dependencies.
  • Experience with Risk/Compliance: Background in AI governance, data privacy, model risk management, or technology risk.
  • Policy to Practice Translation: Ability to convert abstract AI principles into technical controls, documentation, and operational workflows.
  • Technical Familiarity: Knowledge of AI lifecycles, Python/SQL (for analysis), and IT governance tooling.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate AI risks and regulatory requirements to both technical teams and executive leadership
