Job description

Reports To: Routing Manager
Duty Days: 238 Days (8 hours/day)
Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt
Pay Grade: A07

Qualifications:
College Hours, high school diploma or GED
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S)
School Bus Driver Certification
Proficient in use of PC computer and Windows
Working knowledge and understanding of EDULOG routing systems (preferred)
Able to work productively with little supervision
Pass annual physical in accordance with state law
Negative result on drug and/or alcohol tests administered as pre-employment, random, post-accident and/or reasonable suspicion basis, in accordance with federal law and district policy
Able to read and interpret maps, map grids and routes
Able to climb in and out of all school bus emergency exits
Primary Purpose:
Responsible for compiling data to produce transportation routing for our Special Needs population. Coordinate assignment of Special Needs students to Assistant Routers. Act as a point of contact for Special Needs routing for campuses and Transportation Centers. Provide ongoing routing changes to meet changing needs of the district and patrons. Safely drive students to and from school on a schedule assigned by the Transportation Department. Safely transport students and staff to and from district sanctioned activities. Always act in the best interest of the district, the students, and the community.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operate routing systems software, as needed.
  • Perform checks of current routes and modify to changing conditions.
  • Monitor and coordinate Special Needs transportation requests.
  • Act as a point of contact for Special Needs issues for campuses and transportation centers.
  • Assist the Routing Manager in the preparation of the state reports for reimbursement.
  • Converse with patrons and schools regarding Special Needs bus routes.
  • Operate any Katy ISD school bus and related equipment in a safe and efficient manner while following all traffic laws, district policies, district regulations and Transportation Department regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions. Repetitive hand motions. Prolonged driving and sitting. Frequent walking, standing, twisting, climbing stairs, stooping, bending, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension. Repetitive hand motions, moderate carrying, reaching. Frequent exposure to extreme temperatures (both hot and cold), vehicle fumes, noise and dust. Irregular hours and occasional prolonged hours.
