The role of an architectural project manager is to oversee the design and building of an architectural project. As an architectural project manager, you are the liaison between the architect or firm and the construction workers. Your duties and responsibilities are to see that the construction meets the architect’s conception. You monitor all phases of the building process and frequently consult with the architect, the site project manager, and other construction professionals about the progress of the project, including the budget, schedule, and hiring of contractors.
| Aspect | Architectural Project Manager | Architectural Designer |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Bachelor's or Master's in Architecture, licensure often preferred | Bachelor's or Master's in Architecture or related field |
| Work Environment | Oversees project execution, coordinates teams, manages budgets | Focuses on design development, creating plans and concepts |
| Industry Usage | Used in firms managing large projects, client communication | Primarily involved in design phases, concept creation |
The main difference is that Architectural Project Managers oversee the entire project process, including coordination and management, while Architectural Designers focus on creating and developing design concepts. Both roles require architectural credentials, but their responsibilities and focus areas differ significantly.
