What is the role of an architectural project manager?

The role of an architectural project manager is to oversee the design and building of an architectural project. As an architectural project manager, you are the liaison between the architect or firm and the construction workers. Your duties and responsibilities are to see that the construction meets the architect’s conception. You monitor all phases of the building process and frequently consult with the architect, the site project manager, and other construction professionals about the progress of the project, including the budget, schedule, and hiring of contractors.

How does an architectural project manager typically collaborate with stakeholders throughout a project's lifecycle?

Architectural Project Managers work closely with a wide range of stakeholders, including clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies. They facilitate communication by organizing meetings, clarifying project goals, and ensuring that everyone is aligned on timelines and deliverables. Throughout the project, they manage expectations, address concerns, and coordinate between teams to solve problems proactively. Effective collaboration is essential for keeping the project on schedule and within budget, while maintaining design integrity and compliance with regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an architectural project manager, and why are they important?

Job description

Architectural Project Manager – Custom Residential

We are recruiting for an established architecture firm in the Dallas area seeking an experienced Architectural Project Manager with a background in custom single-family residential projects.

This position is geared toward an architectural professional who can take ownership of multiple projects, work directly with clients and coordinate internal teams, consultants and contractors. The ideal candidate will have experience with highly customized residential projects rather than production or tract housing.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple custom residential projects in various stages of development
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and maintain strong client relationships
  • Coordinate architectural teams, engineers, consultants, contractors and interior designers
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, scope and deliverables
  • Lead project and coordination meetings
  • Oversee the development and quality of architectural documents
  • Review drawings and consultant documents for coordination and constructability
  • Help resolve design and construction issues throughout the project
  • Participate in construction administration, site visits, RFIs and submittal reviews
  • Provide direction and mentorship to junior architectural staff
  • Maintain project organization and communication across multiple concurrent assignments

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional architectural experience
  • Custom single-family residential architecture experience required
  • Experience with high-end or luxury custom homes strongly preferred
  • Previous Project Manager, Project Architect or comparable project-leadership experience
  • Strong client-facing and consultant-management skills
  • Experience managing project schedules, budgets and deliverables
  • Strong architectural documentation and technical coordination experience
  • Revit and/or AutoCAD experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture
  • Architectural licensure is a plus, but not required
  • Must currently reside in the Dallas–Fort Worth area
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship

The Opportunity

This is a full-time position with an established Dallas-area architectural practice. The role offers the opportunity to manage sophisticated custom residential projects while working closely with homeowners, consultants, contractors and other design professionals.

We're looking for someone who enjoys the client interaction, attention to detail and hands-on project leadership that come with one-of-a-kind residential architecture.

Local DFW candidates only. Relocation is not available for this position.
