Job description

Journeyman / Apprentice Electrician
Location: Knoxville, TN
Pay: $20–$30/hr (DOE, license, and experience level)
Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Summary
We are seeking Journeyman and Apprentice Electricians to join a commercial/industrial electrical team in the Knoxville, TN area. This role covers a range of experience levels — from licensed journeymen with proven commercial electrical experience to apprentices actively building their skills through training and fieldwork. Compensation and role placement will be determined based on licensure, verified experience, and technical proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in commercial and/or industrial settings
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical drawings
  • Work with low-voltage systems and, where applicable, PLC-based equipment
  • Follow all safety protocols and ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local codes
  • Use hand and power tools appropriate to electrical installation and repair work
  • Collaborate with project leads, foremen, and other trades on job sites
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used

Qualifications

Journeyman Track:

  • Valid Tennessee Journeyman Electrician license (required)
  • Demonstrated commercial and/or industrial electrical experience
  • Strong working knowledge of the NEC
  • Ability to work independently and lead smaller tasks or crews

Apprentice Track:

  • Enrollment in (or completion of) a formal electrical apprenticeship program, or equivalent relevant training/field experience
  • Basic understanding of electrical theory, blueprint reading, and safety practices
  • Willingness to learn under the supervision of licensed electricians

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment and materials as needed
  • Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in varied weather conditions
  • Standing, bending, and physical exertion for extended periods

Additional Notes

  • Candidates without a valid TN Journeyman license will be considered and scored at the Apprentice tier, regardless of prior experience level
  • Local candidates preferred; must be reliably available to report to Knoxville-area job sites
