Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Field Application Engineer 2. In this role, you will be responsible for providing engineering support to Marine and Recreational Vehicle (RV) Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) customers and assuring the successful integration of Garmin equipment into their vehicles and vessels.
Essential Functions
  • Work directly with customer to assess electrical system needs, develop schematics, and participate in any line side support as well as acting as customer liaison with Garmin technical team to assess and implement custom interfaces as needed
  • Develop project scope of work documents and review effectively with team leadership
  • Apply Garmin electrical control logic and customer user interface to provide full integration as outlined in the scope of work and system requirements
  • Partner with customer engineering team on system integration
  • Act as liaison between customers and engineering team on any custom software interface solutions
  • Analyze customer requirements and suggest system solutions
  • Develop simple wiring schematics for customer use as needed
  • Direct/mentor customers with solving technical issues or problems
  • Develop simple, basic electrical system configuration and automation schemes based on customer specifications
  • Partner with customers to see designs through to production
  • Work with team to ensure that Garmin remains competitive and cutting edge with competitors and related applications
  • Identify/resolve defects as required, escalating issues if needed to engineering team
  • Provide feedback and recommended solutions to engineering team on product performance and provide suggestions for future improvements
  • Communicate status of work clearly providing visibility to manager or mentor
  • Apply design standards and procedures to implement any vessel or vehicle solutions
  • Document work in a thorough and organized manner
  • Work collaboratively/professionally in a team environment with other Garmin associates to achieve goals, including frequently with Field Service Engineers and Sales staff to service accounts
  • Develop a minimum of 5 FAE Team process improvements per year, contributing to team and organizational efficiency and impact
  • Provide support to technical champions for improved system integrations
  • Attend trade shows and dealer events as required (Ability to travel (30% of the time or more)

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or another technical Engineering related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
  • Must have patience and understanding that the Garmin customer is the highest priority at all times
  • Must possess previous experience or exposure to (with ability to implement) the design and development of electrical systems for road-going vehicles or marine vessels
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be detail-oriented, have the ability to work proactively/effectively with minimal supervision, the ability to prioritize/multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment, and be a driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems with excellent time management and follow-up skills
  • Ability to travel (30% of the time or more)
