Job description

The Application Operations Analyst performs basic to intermediate operations and support tasks under the direction of a Senior Application Operations Analyst, following established run books, playbooks, and work instructions. This role applies technical skills; primarily on Linux/Unix systems and Oracle databases to diagnose and resolve application and data issues of well-defined scope. Over time, the analyst takes on a broader range of assignments and may help scope and develop solutions, following existing development frameworks, coding guidelines, and database standards. Experience with SmartMeter or other utility metering systems is a plus but not required.

This is a HYBRID position with occasional travel required to the Bay Area. Candidates must reside within a 4-hour travel radius of the Bay Area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing application interfaces and tools; prepare logical models and procedures; create SQL code and scheduling scripts; and test/debug interfaces and tools
  • Diagnose, isolate, and correct data and performance faults in supported systems
  • Analyze, debug, and resolve bugs, incidents, and exceptions in existing applications, interfaces, processes, and procedures
  • Execute planned and ad-hoc corrective maintenance to sustain continuous system operations
  • Provide oversight and back-up support for time-sensitive batch processing (e.g., 24-hour clock package processing) to ensure timely, accurate bill delivery in line with agreed service-level agreements
  • Prepare and obtain approval of system and development documentation
  • Assist in defining, developing, and documenting business requirements, objectives, deliverables, and specifications on a project-by-project basis
  • Propose enhancements to procedures, processes, and tools based on operational experience
  • Interact with users, business stakeholders, and team members to discuss and report progress on requests and incidents; provide timely, clear, non-technical communication

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in IS, CS, Engineering, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of supporting, troubleshooting, and operating applications and infrastructure, including operations support and analysis
  • Hands-on experience with Linux/Unix server environments (application support, job monitoring, log analysis, and troubleshooting)
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle databases, including SQL for data analysis, validation, and troubleshooting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work across multiple departments

Preferred / Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience supporting SmartMeter, AMI, or other utility metering / meter-to-cash systems
  • Experience with time-sensitive batch processing and billing data flows
  • Familiarity with supporting infrastructure components such as networks and backups
  • Experience with the design and deployment of large-scale, complex infrastructure-application systems
