Job description

Shift: 8:00AM - 4:30PM, Monday-Friday

Job Summary

The Anesthesia Technician supports the anesthesia team in delivering safe and efficient patient care by preparing equipment, assisting with procedures, and maintaining anesthesia supplies. This role involves working under the supervision of anesthesiologists and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) to facilitate smooth and effective operations in areas requiring anesthesia. The Anesthesia Technician plays a vital role in maintaining a sterile and organized environment, troubleshooting equipment, and ensuring readiness for a variety of procedures across all patient populations.

Essential Functions

  • Prepares anesthetizing locations by setting up, calibrating, and maintaining monitoring devices and anesthesia equipment for scheduled procedures.

  • Assists anesthesia providers with aseptic or sterile techniques during non-invasive and invasive procedures, including airway management and intravenous or arterial line placement.

  • Monitors and reports abnormal changes in patient vital signs or physical appearance to anesthesia providers.

  • Obtains and stocks anesthesia supplies in operating rooms, labor and delivery suites, and other procedural areas to ensure readiness.

  • Assists with laboratory tests and results, including arterial blood gases (ABGs), activated clotting times (ACTs), and other point-of-care tests.

  • Prepares, obtains, and delivers blood products and pharmaceuticals as requested by the anesthesia team.

  • Provides technical guidance and instruction to other anesthesia technicians, and team members as needed.

  • Assists with patient transport, positioning, and application of monitors under the supervision of the anesthesia team.

  • Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions, ensuring timely resolution by coordinating with the appropriate repair departments.

  • Maintains immediate availability to assist with routine and emergency procedures as directed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Anesthesia Technician program preferred or

  • College or coursework in Biology, Physiology, Anatomy, or related scientific fields preferred

  • 0-2 years of experience as an Anesthesia Technician in a hospital or surgical setting preferred

  • 1-2 years of experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in setting up, calibrating, and maintaining anesthesia equipment and monitoring devices.

  • Knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques for assisting with invasive and non-invasive procedures.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage supplies and maintain readiness across multiple procedural areas.

  • Effective communication skills to interact with anesthesia providers, nurses, and other healthcare team members.

  • Ability to remain calm and responsive in high-pressure and emergency situations.

  • Familiarity with patient care protocols and safety standards.

Licenses and Certifications

  • BCLS - Basic Life Support required

  • Cer.A.TT - Certified Anesthesia Technologist preferred
