Job description

Business Unit / Role Specific Info

Global Merchant & Network Services brings together American Express' merchant and network-related businesses. This includes the management of our relationships across the globe with both the millions of merchants who accept American Express, as well as our partners in countries and territories that deliver card acceptance, issuance and innovation.

The American Express business has two core types of customers. The Card Members that use our cards to make purchases, and the businesses that accept them. In Global Merchant & Network Services, we primarily focus on the businesses that accept our cards. We bring together the businesses that lead and evolve the company's relationships with the millions of merchants around the world that accept American Express, as well as the team that runs the company's payment network and leads bank partnerships globally. This is an exciting time for GMNS. We are expanding global acceptance of our cards, driving greater usage of our network, using our modern capabilities to bring together broader revenue streams, and driving innovation both in-house and with partners. To put the scale of our global reach in numbers:

  • More than 80 million global locations accept American Express payment products
  • We operate in 198 countries and territories
  • We have 135+ million cards in force, that perform 12 billion transactions per year and supply more than $1.5 trillion in network volume
  • We have 190+ partners who either issue cards on our network, and/or sign new businesses to accept Amex on our behalf

The US Merchant Marketing, Global Marketing Execution & Analytics (UMGEA) team is responsible for leveraging marketing and analytics capabilities to drive sustainable growth through the customer, partner, product and business insights that inform the merchant value proposition, channel strategy and investment optimization, while leveraging a full range of enterprise assets and partnerships for GMNS customers and ensuring we remain compliant as a network. This internship will offer a unique opportunity to contribute to the marketing vertical within UMGEA by gaining hands on experience in strategic analysis, market research, and project management.

This position will be based in New York, NY
