What is Intune Autopilot?

Intune Autopilot is a Microsoft solution that streamlines the deployment and configuration of new Windows devices in an organization. Using Autopilot, IT administrators can pre-configure devices so that users can set them up with minimal interaction—often just by signing in with their organizational credentials. The process automatically enrolls the device in Microsoft Intune for management, applies company policies, and installs required applications, reducing the need for hands-on IT support. This approach improves efficiency, enhances user experience, and ensures devices are secure and compliant from the start.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working with Intune Autopilot deployments, and how can these be addressed?

Professionals handling Intune Autopilot deployments often face challenges such as device enrollment errors, compatibility issues with certain hardware models, and user assignment mismatches. These issues can typically be addressed by thorough pre-deployment testing, maintaining updated hardware and driver lists, and ensuring clear documentation for both IT and end-users. Additionally, collaborating closely with support teams and staying current with Microsoft Best Practices can help minimize disruptions and streamline large-scale deployments.

What is the difference between All Intune Autopilot vs All SCCM Autopilot?

FeatureAll Intune Autopilot
Primary Management ToolMicrosoft Intune

All Intune Autopilot focuses on cloud-based device management and deployment, streamlining setup for modern devices. In contrast, All SCCM Autopilot (System Center Configuration Manager) involves on-premises management, offering more control for complex environments. Both are used in enterprise settings but serve different deployment and management needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Intune Autopilot Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Intune Autopilot Specialist, you need deep knowledge of Windows OS deployment, device lifecycle management, and experience with Microsoft Endpoint Manager and Azure Active Directory. Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, PowerShell scripting, and related Microsoft 365 services is typically required, often supported by certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and clear communication are essential for working with end users and IT teams. These skills ensure efficient device provisioning, secure configuration, and smooth onboarding processes in modern workplace environments.

Key responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead on client IT projects, including Azure builds, cloud migrations, server and email migrations, network deployments, and Microsoft 365 tenant configurations from assessment through completion.

  • Design, deploy, and manage Azure environments for client workloads, including virtual machines, virtual networks, storage, and identity integration.

  • Lead the technical side of onboarding new managed services clients, including infrastructure assessment, Microsoft 365 tenant setup and security hardening, endpoint enrollment, and integration with monitoring and management tools.

Job description

Salary: $90,000-$100,000 Annually

Stringfellow Technology Group is hiring an IT Systems Engineer to join our Professional Services team. The majority of your time will be spent leading IT project delivery for our managed services clients, including Azure deployments, Microsoft 365 tenant builds, and cloud migrations. You will also run the technical side of new client onboardings.

This role requires someone who thinks in systems, not just tasks. You will assess client environments, design the right infrastructure approach, and execute the plan with minimal hand-holding. If you are analytical, self-directed, and prefer to understand the full picture before you start building, this is the role.

What you will own

Project delivery

  • IT project execution: Serve as the technical lead on client IT projects: Azure environment builds, cloud migrations, server and email migrations, network deployments, and M365 tenant configurations. You own the work from assessment through completion.
  • Azure infrastructure: Design, deploy, and manage Azure environments including virtual machines, virtual networks, storage, and identity integration for client workloads.
  • On-premises server work: Maintain familiarity with local server environments. Most work involves migrating clients off on-prem infrastructure, but you will occasionally scope and deploy new replacement hosts when the situation calls for it.
  • Cloud migrations: Plan and execute migrations to Azure and Microsoft 365, including tenant-to-tenant moves, hybrid configurations, email migrations, and data cutover planning.
  • M365 tenant configuration and security: Implement and secure Microsoft 365 client tenants: Entra ID, MFA, Intune/Autopilot, email security, compliant device policies, and conditional access.
  • Project scoping and SOWs: Assess client environments, define realistic timelines and parameters, and produce Statements of Work that set clear expectations.
  • Technical documentation: Document all new and modified systems so the team can maintain them after handoff. Clean documentation is not optional.

Client onboardings

  • New client technical onboarding: Lead the technical side of onboarding new managed services clients. This includes infrastructure assessment, M365 tenant setup and security hardening, endpoint enrollment via Intune/Autopilot, and integration with our monitoring and management tools.
  • Transition management: Ensure smooth handoffs from onboarding to ongoing support with minimal client disruption and complete documentation for the service desk team.

What we need

  • Experience: 25 years of hands-on cloud infrastructure and IT project work, ideally in an MSP or multi-client environment. You have assessed environments, designed solutions, and delivered projects, not just maintained existing systems.
  • Microsoft 365 depth: Strong M365 administration skills: Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Intune, Autopilot, and Entra ID. You have done tenant configurations and migrations, not just day-to-day admin.
  • Azure working knowledge: Familiarity with Azure VMs, VNets, NSGs, Azure AD/Entra ID, Azure Storage, and Azure Migrate. You do not need to be an Azure architect, but you need to be able to stand up and secure an environment.
  • Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, subnetting, firewall rules, and VPN configuration. Fluent, not expert.
  • Automation and scripting: PowerShell is your daily driver. You script repeatable tasks instead of clicking through them manually.
  • Analytical thinking: You assess before you act. You want to understand the full scope of a problem, identify dependencies, and design the right approach before executing.
  • Certifications: CompTIA Network+ or equivalent baseline. Azure certifications (AZ-104, AZ-900, or MS-900) are a strong plus. We reimburse certification costs.
  • Education: Bachelors degree or equivalent hands-on experience. We care more about what you can do than where you went to school.

What makes you stand out

  • MSP tools: Experience with ConnectWise Manage, ConnectWise Automate, or similar PSA/RMM platforms.
  • Azure advanced: Exposure to Azure Virtual Desktop, Azure Arc, or Azure Lighthouse for multi-tenant management.
  • VoIP and Teams telephony: Familiarity with Microsoft Teams Phone, Direct Routing, or RingCentral migrations.
  • AI and automation interest: Genuine curiosity about how AI tools can improve IT operations. You do not need to be an AI engineer, but you should want to learn.
  • Advanced Microsoft certifications: AZ-104, MS-102, SC-300, or similar identity and cloud admin credentials.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Company-paid health insurance
  • Paid vacation and sick leave
  • Certification and training reimbursement
  • 401k plan with company match
