Will AI replace program managers?

AI program managers oversee the integration of AI tools into project workflows, coordinate teams, and manage timelines. While AI can automate routine tasks and support decision-making, human oversight remains essential for strategic planning, stakeholder communication, and complex problem-solving. The role is evolving to include managing AI systems rather than being fully replaced by them.

What does an AI program manager do?

An AI program manager oversees the planning, development, and implementation of artificial intelligence projects within an organization. They coordinate cross-functional teams, manage project timelines, and ensure AI solutions meet business objectives, often requiring knowledge of machine learning, data analysis, and project management tools. Their role involves balancing technical understanding with strategic oversight to deliver effective AI initiatives.

Which 3 jobs will survive AI?

For an AI Program Manager, roles that require complex strategic decision-making, emotional intelligence, and creative problem-solving are likely to persist, such as executive leadership, specialized healthcare professionals, and creative roles like designers or writers. These jobs involve nuanced human judgment and interpersonal skills that AI currently cannot replicate fully. Continuous learning and adaptability are essential to stay relevant as AI advances.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AI Program Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an AI Program Manager, you need expertise in project management, a strong understanding of AI concepts, and experience leading cross-functional teams, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with machine learning frameworks, cloud platforms, agile methodologies, and certifications such as PMP or Scrum Master are highly valuable. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills set standout professionals apart in this role. These abilities ensure projects are delivered on time, align with business goals, and effectively bridge the gap between technical and non-technical teams.

AI Program Managers often encounter challenges in aligning diverse teams—such as data scientists, engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders—toward shared project goals. Differences in technical backgrounds, communication styles, and priorities can lead to misunderstandings or delays. Successful AI Program Managers proactively facilitate clear communication, set well-defined milestones, and ensure that all team members understand the project's objectives and constraints. Building strong relationships across departments and maintaining adaptability are key strategies for overcoming these challenges.

Job description

Position Title: Senior AI Program Manager
Role Purpose

LevelTen Energys mission is to accelerate the energy transition by facilitating frictionless transactions. As the leading provider of renewable transaction infrastructure, we deliver the cloud-based software, centralized supply, automated analytics, and transaction expertise required to power the renewable energy economy. The LevelTen Platform is the worlds largest online hub for renewable energy buyers, sellers, advisors, asset owners and financiers, and delivers the online tools and expertise they need to buy, sell and finance assets quickly.

Join us on a mission that matters.

LevelTen Energy is looking for a dynamic and highly organized AI Program Manager to serve as our internal AI evangelist. This is a hands-on, individual contributor role; you will be the driving force behind integrating cutting-edge AI tools and strategies across all departments. You will not only champion the use of AI but also roll up your sleeves to build agentic workflows, train our teams on advanced features in the Claude ecosystem, identify high-impact use cases, and partner closely with our IT and Information Security (InfoSec) teams to ensure safe, secure, and seamless tool rollouts. If you can talk about AI but can't build with it, this role isn't the right fit.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Evangelize & Educate: Serve as the internal champion for Claude AI adoption. Build excitement and buy-in across the organization by showcasing the value of AI tools through engaging presentations, demos, and internal communications including live demonstrations of tools and workflows you've built yourself.
  • Applied AI Expertise: Go beyond evangelism to actually build in Claude, configure agentic workflows, design AI automations, and prototype solutions and connected platforms. Comfortable working with APIs, prompt engineering, and lightweight integrations without needing engineering support for every step.
  • Design & Deliver Training: Develop comprehensive training programs, workshops, and resources tailored to different departments (e.g., Marketing, Sales, HR, Engineering) to ensure employees are confident and capable of using approved AI tools.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with department heads to identify bottlenecks and workflows where AI can drive efficiency, cost savings, or innovation.
  • IT & InfoSec Partnership: Work hand-in-hand with our IT and Information Security teams to evaluate, vet, and safely deploy new AI platforms. Ensure all AI initiatives strictly adhere to company data privacy, security standards, and compliance protocols.
  • Program Management: Own the roadmap for internal AI adoption across a company of 100+ employees and multiple departments. Track deployment progress, measure usage metrics, and gather employee feedback to continuously improve our AI toolstack and strategy.
  • Market Research: Stay constantly plugged into the rapidly evolving AI landscape. Identify emerging tools, trends, and best practices, and recommend new solutions that align with our business goals. Qualifications 5+ years of experience in technical program management, with 1-2 of those years incorporating AI.
    • AI Fluency & Passion: Deep, current knowledge of the Claude ecosystem and a genuine enthusiasm for how the tools are transforming the modern workplace.
    • Proven AI Builder: Demonstrated experience designing and deploying agentic workflows, AI automations, or lightweight integrations not just using AI tools, but building with them. You have something to show for it.
    • Self-Driven Practitioner: You experiment with AI on your own time, not just on the clock. You stay current because you're genuinely curious, and you bring what you learn back to the team in practical, applicable ways.
    • Stellar Presentation Skills: A natural communicator who can translate complex technical concepts into accessible, engaging language for non-technical audiences.
    • Exceptional Organization: Proven experience in program or project management. You know how to build a roadmap, manage timelines, and keep multiple stakeholders aligned.
    • Security-Minded: Experience collaborating with IT or InfoSec teams. You understand the importance of data privacy, enterprise security, and the risks associated with shadow IT.
    • Collaborative Empathy: High emotional intelligence with the ability to manage change. You understand that adopting new technology can be intimidating, and you approach training with patience and empathy. Benefits / Perks
      • Full Medical, Vision and Dental coverage
      • Wellness Credit
      • Flexible vacation policy
      • 11 paid company holidays
      • 401k
      In the Seattle office:
      • Casual dress code
      • Commuter benefits
      • Standing desk options
      • Regular company-sponsored happy hours
      • Hybrid in-office/work from home schedule

      Additional Information

      • This position is based out of our office in the Belltown neighborhood of Seattle, WA (hybrid work schedule).
      • The estimated compensation for this position is $140,000-180,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications. In addition, this position is eligible for an annual bonus and an equity grant.
      • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without a current or future need for visa sponsorship.
