Job description

Heavy Civil Estimator

Company Overview

ASI/BACC is a trusted heavy-civil partner to B. Anthony Construction Corp., delivering bridges, roadways, landfills, dams, and other major infrastructure across the Tri-State area. We are known for tackling complex, schedule-driven projects with a focus on safety, quality, and long-term client relationships.

As we continue to grow, we are strengthening our estimating team with professionals who want to own bids end-to-end and directly influence which projects we pursue and win.

The Opportunity

This Estimator role is a hands-on opportunity to lead complete estimating efforts for complex heavy civil work, including earthwork, drainage, bridges, utilities, and roadwork. Reporting to the Chief Estimator, you will be a key contributor in turning opportunities into profitable, buildable projects.

If you enjoy digging into plans, shaping bid strategy, and using tools like HCSS HeavyBid and AGTEK to build accurate, competitive estimates, this role offers a chance to deepen your expertise and grow with a respected civil contractor.

What You'll Do
  • Own full estimating packages for assigned projects, including detailed quantity takeoffs, unit pricing, cost breakdowns, and clear written proposal narratives.
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract documents to define scope, identify gaps, and quantify work accurately.
  • Solicit, obtain, and evaluate competitive bids from subcontractors and vendors, ensuring solid bid coverage and identifying risks, exclusions, and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the estimating team and leadership to set bid strategy, assess key risk items and contingencies, and develop cost-saving alternatives.
  • Build and validate estimates using HCSS HeavyBid and AGTEK, producing consistent, well-documented deliverables for internal review and client submission.
  • Participate in site visits, pre-bid meetings, and constructability reviews, documenting field conditions that affect pricing, means and methods, and schedule.
  • Apply and help enforce estimating standards, QA/QC checks, and best practices to improve accuracy and repeatability.
  • Maintain and analyze historical cost data to refine production rates, benchmarking, and forecasting on future bids.
  • Prepare bid schedules, cost summaries, and presentations for internal stakeholders to support bid reviews and go/no-go decisions.
What Success Looks Like
  • Within the first 6–12 months, consistently produce accurate, well-structured estimates that hold up through project execution and post-bid review.
  • Play a lead role in several competitive bids, contributing to successful awards on targeted heavy civil projects in our core markets.
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of ASI/BACC production rates, crews, and preferred means and methods, improving both speed and quality of estimates.
  • Be recognized by the Chief Estimator and operations teams as a go-to partner for clear, reliable pricing, risk identification, and constructability input.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent industry experience in heavy civil construction.
  • Hands-on estimating experience in heavy civil work such as earthwork, drainage, bridges, utilities, or roadwork.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contracts and translate them into accurate quantities and scope.
  • Comfort working with industry estimating software (experience with HCSS HeavyBid and AGTEK is strongly preferred) and Excel-based takeoff/pricing tools.
  • Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and a disciplined approach to QA/QC in all estimating deliverables.
  • Collaborative communication style, able to work closely with estimators, project managers, field teams, and subcontractors.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package.
  • Medical, dental, retirement plan, and paid time off.
  • Professional development opportunities.
