What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Agency Strategy, and why are they important?

To excel in Agency Strategy, you need a solid background in marketing, business analysis, and strategic planning, often supported by a relevant degree or experience in advertising or communications. Familiarity with market research tools, analytics platforms, and presentation software like Google Analytics, Tableau, and PowerPoint is typically expected. Agency Strategy professionals play a central role in connecting creative and account teams by translating client objectives into actionable insights and clear strategic direction. They often facilitate brainstorming sessions, guide campaign messaging, and ensure that creative concepts align with the overall brand strategy. Regular collaboration and feedback loops are common, as strategists help account teams understand market trends and consumer behavior, while also ensuring that creative outputs effectively address client goals. This cross-functional teamwork is key to delivering cohesive and impactful campaigns.

Job description

Job Summary
As Strategy Director at Ologie, you’ll lead strategy for how clients solve complex marketing and brand challenges. You’ll shape the full lifecycle of strategy: defining goals, translating audience insights into frameworks, and building integrated plans that drive measurable outcomes. You’ll work closely with strategy leadership, including Chief Strategy Officer and AVP of strategy, consult directly with senior clients, and help guide interdisciplinary teams to align brand, messaging, creative, and campaign efforts.
You’ll support business development through proposals, pitches, and opportunity planning, while also contributing thought leadership and visibility for the agency’s strategy practice across higher education, healthcare, and mission-driven sectors.

Here's what you'll be doing:
Lead Strategy Development
  • Participate in defining and leading strategy projects internally and with the client, including early and ongoing consultation, formulating an approach, contributing to a statement of work, organizing needed expertise and resources, and making proactive recommendations to avoid pitfalls
  • Create research and strategy activities and deliverables, including research summaries, findings, insights and implications, workshop activities, and the final strategy, plan or brief
  • Interpret client challenges first-hand and translate them into an actionable plan
  • Provide mentoring and leadership within the strategy group and throughout the agency, focused mostly on the strategy offer, processes, tools, resourcing and strategic best-practices for strategy development and execution
Act as Strategic Partner to Clients
  • Consult with senior client stakeholders to uncover insights, shape vision, and deepen relationships
  • Guide discovery engagements and translate findings into compelling strategy documents and presentations
  • Consider the client business with a long-range perspective and identify opportunities to continue relationships
Collaborate Across Teams
  • Work closely with researchers and creatives to integrate and execute strategic counsel
  • Contribute to a culture of collaboration, curiosity, and creative problem-solving
Advance the Discipline
  • Collaborate with Ologists to advance their understanding and confidence in the research and strategy practice
  • Develop content and thought leadership, inclusive of conference speaking engagements, editorials, and POVs, to drive Ologie’s research and strategy visibility within key client categories, including higher education, health care, cultural institutions, and community organizations
  • Mentor junior strategists and support the growth of our research and strategy team
Contribute to Business Development
  • Represent strategy in new business efforts, proposals, and pitch presentations
  • Help position our strategy offering in ways that resonate with prospects in higher ed, healthcare, and mission-driven sectors
  • Support strategic planning and opportunity development for existing clients
To be successful in this role, our preference is that you have:
  • 8+ years of leadership experience in brand, marketing, or strategy roles - agency or consultancy experience preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
  • Proven success in developing and delivering brand and marketing strategy for complex organizations, particularly in higher education, fundraising, national non-profits, health systems, or other mission-driven sectors.
  • Exceptional ability to translate research, data, and insight into clear, compelling strategic direction.
  • Comfort using AI tools to support research, analysis, and day-to-day work.
  • Confidence presenting in front of large groups of 30 or more individuals
  • Strong skills at building relationships, guiding collaboration, and creating alignment across internal and external partners.
  • Confidence in managing teams, budgets, timelines, and competing priorities.
Work Environment, Physical and Travel Requirements:
  • Able to work effectively from a home office environment, including extended computer use and virtual communication.
  • Able to communicate effectively with employees and clients using videoconferencing, phone, email, and collaboration tools.
  • Able to perform basic physical tasks such as reaching, standing, walking, and operating standard office equipment. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.
  • Able to meet regular attendance and schedule requirements of approximately 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, with occasional extended time to meet business and client needs.
  • Able to travel regularly for client meetings and company events, typically 2–3 times per month for 2–3 days per trip, including overnight stays.
  • Don’t meet all of our preferences? Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Ologie, we are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you’re excited about this role we encourage you to apply. You may be just the right candidate for this role or another.
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of the role.
More Important Details
Ologie follows a hybrid work model, allowing you the flexibility to work from home, or our office in Columbus, Ohio, or a combination of both. For this role, we’re also open to fully remote candidates who are willing to travel occasionally throughout the year for company meetings, conferences, or client visits.

The salary range for this position is $95,000 to $110,000. Your final salary will be determined based on your training, relevant experience, and location.

Ologie offers a comprehensive benefit package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance; company-sponsored life and disability insurance; optional life insurance; mental health support; and a 401(k) profit-sharing plan with a company match. Paid time off, along with paid holidays throughout the year, including a holiday break (typically up to six days) at the end of December.
