The anticipated hiring range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000 per year. Hiring offers will be determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience. POSITION SUMMARY
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for administering Human Resources functions for the CIA's California campuses. Under the direction of Human Resources leadership, the Human Resources Generalist will collaborate with campus staff to implement the policies and procedures of the Human Resources Department and will act as a liaison to meet the needs of California-based Leadership, Managers and employees as it relates to Human Resources functions.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Under the direction of the Associate Director - Human Resources, oversees the day to day administration, operations and activities of the Human Resources function for the California Campus. Ensures that all business cycle needs of the operation are met by Human Resources.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for employee relations for non-union California Campus employees on behalf of the CIA. Manages employee disciplinary processes, ensuring that all progressive discipline is documented and properly maintained in employee files. Conducts investigations as required regarding employee conduct and behavior, and consults with Associate Director - Human Resources and/or the Associate Director - Employee & Labor Relations for next steps and resolution. Supports departments in the establishment of performance improvement plans for under-performing employees. Administers employee "for cause" termination processes in compliance with CIA standards. Acts in full compliance with all Title IX policies and procedures of the Institute. Guides management through the progressive discipline process, providing counseling as appropriate. Ensures that all performance issues are promptly dealt with and properly documented.
  • Liaises with the Recruitment Team to ensure all open positions are staffed, and the hiring and onboarding process is executed accurately, professionally and efficiently at the California campuses.
  • Administers HR processes, including but not limited to annual performance appraisal and increase cycles, annual goal and objective setting, wellness or employee events, and annual compliance notices.
  • Advises department management on matters pertaining to compensation practices, pay decisions, policy interpretation and performance management.
  • Communicates information to employees regarding the administration of benefit, compensation, leave of absence and worker's compensation programs, as required.
  • Delivers training programs to California campus employees through both in-person and online training classes. Ensures that all California campus employees are in compliance with mandatory training requirements.
  • Collects and organizes employee data and files. Supports the administration of internal compliance audits and examinations.
  • Conducts exit interviews and reports pertinent information to Human Resources leadership.
  • Provides project management for events and Human Resources activities as required.
  • Assists with projects related to employee engagement programming. Makes recommendations for improvements at the California campus to improve employee engagement.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
  • Associate's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field, or significant work experience in lieu thereof.

Experience:
  • Two (2) years of progressive Human Resources experience; including proven experience with employee relations.
  • Working knowledge of employee relations and recruitment/onboarding administration and practices, human resources systems, policies and procedures and human resources generalist activities.
  • Working knowledge of employment legislation required.
  • Must have experience working with an online HR System.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience conducting investigations strongly preferred.
  • Bachelors Degree in related field.
  • PHR or SPHR designation preferred.
  • Higher Education working experience preferred.
  • Corporate experience in a multi-unit environment preferred.
  • Experience working with the UKG HR System an asset.
  • Knowledge of employment legislation for California preferred.

  • Ability to effectively work within multi-disciplined work teams to respond to business needs.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive human resources issues with confidentiality and discretion.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills required. Must have demonstrated ability in organizational, time management, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a proven, consistent track record showing the ability to work with all levels within an organization.
  • Must display a high level of energy and self-motivation.
  • Strong computer experience, which must include abilities to work effectively with HRIS systems and MS Office suite products, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Regular work requires usage of a computer for extended periods of time, sometimes in excess of eight (8) hours per day.
  • Able to travel between two California campuses throughout the work week due to business needs.
  • Must be available to work nights and weekends as required due to business needs.
