Job description

Job Summary 

The Area Manager (1st shift) is a frontline manager that functions as the main driver of all functions in their area of the warehouse. An Area Manager should expect to perform Data Analysis, manage employee Payroll, manage HR Functions, Performance Manage Employees, hold a high standard of Safety, and be the guiding hand of overall production in their area.

Essential Job Functions *

  • Productivity and Results: Provides daily direction to Area Supervisors to accomplish operating results, delivers results in accordance with established productivity standards and business unit goals, applies sound motivational and employee relation techniques to maintain an engaged and productive work group, schedules and appropriately deploys assigned personnel to achieve performance goals, troubleshoots workflow disruptions and takes appropriate corrective action.
  • Staffing and Staff Development: Recruits quality personnel on a timely basis to maintain optimal staffing levels, directs supervisors to ensure all staff are properly oriented and trained, conducts performance reviews and sets goals and development plans for departmental personnel, administers corrective action as required in accordance with policy, establishes and maintains sound professional relations with all employees within the work group to ensure a high level of employee engagement.
  • Operational Support and Control: develops, recommends, and/or implements approved enhancements to processes, systems, policies, and procedures to improve operational efficiency, accuracy, and customer service levels, works with maintenance and support teams to effectively maintain equipment in optimal working order, reconciles payroll and attendance records on a timely basis in compliance with policies and established payroll standards, reviews the accuracy of methods and productivity standards and recommends appropriate adjustments, provides input to the annual budgeting process.
  • Safety and Quality of Results: Takes appropriate action to enforce safety policies and procedures, conducts safety training as necessary and according to established schedules, establishes and enforces checks of process quality to ensure compliance with established standards.

Education & Experience

  • Required Bachelor’s degree or equivalent of 2-3 years of Leadership Experience.
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement Projects Preferred.
  • Experience managing 20+ Direct Reports Preferred.

Competencies – Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in a high volume automated multi-shift distribution center.
  • Experience in a facility that uses conveyers, RF scanning, and pick-to-ship container methods preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of inventory control and traffic management.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, and Windows. Able to learn and use in-house software applications such as PowerBi and PKMS. 
  • Excellent organization, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to lead and motivate employees by guiding, training, and offering counsel.

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Fast-paced, standing on concrete floors up to 8 hrs/day. Exposure to loud noise. Functional vision and hearing required.
  • Heavy lifting up to 70 lbs., pushing/pulling up to 200 lbs.
