Overview: 

Wangard Partners, a growing multi-entity company, is seeking an energetic, self-motivated individual to fill the role of financial accountant.  This position will report to the Accounting Manager.  The primary responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to monthly close which includes general ledger reconciliations and preparation of financial statements for a portfolio of commercial and residential entities, maintenance of fixed asset records, and preparation of workpapers on an annual basis for tax preparers.  The property accountant position will partner with teams across all business lines to generate reports, maintain financial records, and provide support on accounting-related inquiries.  To apply for this position, you must apply directly on our website at: https://wangard.catsone.com/careers/

Primary Duties: 

  • Contribute to Wangard’s achievement of strategic goals and objectives as well as those of the accounting department. 

  • Perform monthly accounting close process including preparation of workpapers, general ledger reconciliations, and preparation of the monthly financial statements for a portfolio of properties to be review by Accounting Manager.  

  • Review and approve AP invoices, ensuring timely and accurate payment to vendors in accordance with company policies. 

  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records, including investigating outstanding items.  

  • Collaborate with the Property Management team to investigate and provide explanations for monthly budget variances.  

  • Prepare and issue monthly billbacks to commercial tenants, ensuring timely communication of added charges to Property Management team. 

  • Prepare annual Common Area Maintenance (CAM) reconciliations for commercial tenants with assistance from property management staff. 

  • Assist Accounting Manager with maintenance of fixed asset records with annual reconciliations. 

  • Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the Accounting Manager informed of all critical issues. 

  • Contribute to process improvements and help maintain compliance with internal controls. 

  • Participate in special projects and assignments as needed. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

The following describes the ideal experience and attributes a successful candidate will offer: 

  • A bachelor’s in accounting is required. 

  • Experience working in public accounting is desirable. 

  • Strong general ledger knowledge gained through experience within an organization that maintains GAAP based accrual accounting. 

  • Strong computer skills, including fluency in Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Word. 

  • Experience with Yardi software is desirable. 

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including ability to articulate concerns in a concise and timely manner. 

  • High degree of detail orientation and conscientiousness concerning the timely completion of assignments. 

  • Desire to take ownership and responsibility for work product. 

  • Responsive team player with the ability to quickly prioritize among numerous pressing tasks. 

  • High degree of credibility and confidentiality.
