Job description

This is a year-long internship starting in Fall 2026. Internship candidates can expect to start part-time during the school year and full-time onsite during the summer.
Carefully selected from universities across the country, our interns bring distinctive ideas and perspectives to our organization. Our employees are passionate about building our emerging talent and future leaders. Accounting Internship
As an Accounting Intern, you will work alongside your hiring manager, mentor, and team to complete tasks critical for Northwestern Mutual's success. We are here to help you both identify and continue to develop your future career goals and passions.

  • Investment Accounting:Assures that all financial activity related to the investment portfolios is accounted for in the general ledger. Monitors the financial results of the investments and prepares financial and compliance reports, analysis and disclosures to meet all reporting requirements.
  • Centralized Accounting: Assists Centralized Accounting Services team in accounts payable, period close processes, commission processing, and more. Supports creation of standardizing and scaling onboarding documentation and training documentation. Provides support to daily, transactional work and assists with special projects.
  • Wealth Accounting: Assists with the accounting related to the Company's Wealth subsidiaries, the Wealth Management Company (WMC) and Northwestern Mutual Investment Services (NMIS). Prepares financial and compliance reports, analysis and disclosures to meet all reporting requirements.

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university with a graduation date of December 2027 or later
  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
  • Previous work or classroom experience in one or more of the following: Accounting or Finance
  • Completion of Intermediate Accounting course
  • Employer immigration sponsorship is not available for this role

  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability
