Plains is a leading North American pureโ€‘play crude oil company, and weโ€™re looking for an Electrical & Instrumentation Technician to join our Fort Laramie, Wyoming, operations. Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, youโ€™ll support safe, reliable operation of our stations, terminals, gathering systems, and control center by maintaining and optimizing critical electrical and instrumentation assets. This position has an on-call requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, install, and commission electrical equipment including instrumentation, MCCs, motors, switchgear, VFDs, MOVs, HVAC systems, and related components.
  • Install, program, and commission PLCs, communication systems, and HMIs.
  • Inspect, test, and calibrate instrumentation and control systems to ensure reliability.
  • Provide electrical support for operations and projects, including technical input and scope development.
  • Develop and execute equipment lockouts and perform scheduled preventive maintenance.
  • Complete required documentation such as work orders, calibration sheets, material requests, and drawing updates.
  • Consult manuals, circuit diagrams, and blueprints to develop maintenance and testing procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with all safety requirements, complete mandatory training, and uphold Plainsโ€™ safety culture.
  • Participate in onโ€‘call rotation to support emergency response and maintenance needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Journeyman Electrician License; Electrical & Instrumentation Technologist (EIT) and/or ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) considered strong assets.
  • Experience in gas plants, refineries, pipelines, or oilfield environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with maintenance management systems an asset.
  • Proficient in English with basic math skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Basic Microsoft Office proficiency and ability to complete computerโ€‘based training.
  • Ability to complete Hazโ€‘Mat and required safety training; willingness to obtain additional certifications as needed.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to respond to callouts for coverage and emergencies.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. for the duration of employment; this position is not eligible for employmentโ€‘based visa sponsorship.
  • Satisfactory background check, references, and compliance with Plainsโ€™ Drug & Alcohol Policy (including preโ€‘employment testing).
  • Valid state driverโ€™s license with a driving record acceptable to the company and its insurers. #plains
