Academic Data Analyst Jobs (NOW HIRING)

The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for the Senior Director for Academic Data and Assessment position! Reporting to the Vice Provost for Academic Technology and Resource Management (ATRM), with a dotted line to the Vice Chancellor and Senior Vice Provost for Academic Planning and Assessment, this position serves as a collaborative partner with campus data teams and academic units to advance academic data strategy, decision support, and learning assessment in the Office of the Provost. The Senior Director leads the development of Academic Affairs data infrastructure and collaborates broadly to support data-informed decision-making across the Office of the Provost, Graduate School, Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE), Office of Faculty Affairs, Division of Student Life (SL), Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), and Data and Analytics, as well as academic units and schools and colleges. In close partnership with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Budget and Finance, this role supports alignment of academic analytics with financial strategy and resource planning, ensuring that data insights effectively inform budget allocation decisions and long-range academic and financial planning. The role also serves as a direct liaison to, and partner for, Data and Analytics for matters affecting academic resources, planning, and strategies. It provides strategic leadership for institutional learning assessment, academic program review, and accreditation. This includes oversight of student learning outcomes (SLOs), program learning outcomes (PLOs), and the faculty governance academic program review process; coordination of CU Boulder's accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission; and partnership with Academic Affairs leadership to evaluate and strengthen academic programs in support of the university's mission. Working closely with the Vice Chancellor and Senior Vice Provost for Academic Planning and Assessment, and other assessment leaders across Academic Affairs and in the schools and colleges, the Senior Director advances a culture of assessment and continuous improvement, ensuring the university effectively demonstrates the quality and impact of its academic programs and learning environment. Academic Affairs and Academic Technology and Resource Management (ATRM) work together to advance CU Boulder's academic mission through excellence in teaching, learning, and data-informed decision-making. Led by the Provost, Academic Affairs provides leadership for academic programs, faculty affairs, and student success, while ATRM delivers the technology, data infrastructure, and resource strategy that enable effective planning, assessment, and continuous improvement across the university.

Build and Lead the Data Infrastructure for Academic Affairs

• Develop and advance an enterprise data strategy for Academic Affairs, including governance, reporting frameworks, and decision-support tools, in partnership with the Office of Data Analytics.
• Advise the Provost and members of the Provost's Cabinet on data priorities, investments, and analytics that support academic planning, program effectiveness, and student success.
• Lead the implementation of integrated, scalable data systems aligned with campus data architecture and policies.
• Supervise and develop staff, ensuring workflows and high-quality outputs.
• Build a scalable team structure to meet evolving Academic Affairs data and analytics needs.

Drive Collaboration & Organizational Change

• Partner with Academic Affairs, Institutional Research, ODA, and OIT to align data definitions, reporting standards, and analytics priorities.
• Lead organizational change efforts related to data infrastructure, including role clarity, reporting relationships, and continuity of operations.
• Support university strategic priorities including creating environments where everyone can thrive; applying approaches (e.g., disaggregation) that advance equity.
• Promote, support, and lead a culture of data-informed decision-making through shared tools, training, and engagement with academic leaders.

Provide Operational Leadership & Execution

• Set priorities and handle delivery of analytics, reporting, and decision-support services.
• Establish work plans, timelines, and performance metrics aligned with institutional goals.
• Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for leadership decision-making.

Provide Institution-Level Learning Assessment, Program Review, & Accreditation Support

• Design, lead and implement strategic institutional-level assessment of student learning results.
• Collaborate/participate in academic program review process, assisting in the review of assessment plans, providing formative feedback for academic departments/units, and helping find opportunities to enact significant educational change.
• Provide strategic advice and consultation to academic leadership, implementation, and evaluation of improvements and enhancements to existing educational operations, systems, and procedures.
• Conduct qualitative/quantitative research, including supervision of data collection efforts and analysis to report on impact of student learning outcomes and curricular effectiveness to support leadership in data informed decision-making.
• Lead coordination of assessment and institutional effectiveness activities needed for compliance purposes and for HLC accreditation, in partnership with ODA/others.
• Summarize findings, write executive reports, and present assessment results for both internal and external constituents.
• Partner with ODA and others to recommend a data analysis/reporting strategy and structure that improves opportunities to generate useful data.
• Supervise the collection, analysis/evaluation of annual program academic assessment plans and reports as appropriate.

Lead Learning Assessment Across Campus

• Alongside Student Life and Undergraduate Education, advise Data and Analytics in the ongoing development and implementation of comprehensive outcomes assessment. programs for all academic and non-academic units that support the teaching-related goals of the university's strategic plan.
• Support Data and Analytics in planning, collection and analysis of various data to support departmental, accreditation and program reviews, including the dissemination of results and assisting others with understanding and appropriately using them.
• Deliver and provide data-based recommendations to campus assessment leaders through the use of applied science, analytics, and visualization.
• Provide appropriate data to support assessment processes, prepare reports summarizing those data, and maintain content on the institutional assessment web pages.

• A hybrid work schedule is offered with 3 days per week on campus.

• The annual hiring range for this full-time position is $150,000-$180,000. Onboarding assistance is available for eligible candidates.

• Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
• 6+ years of directly relevant professional experience with data analysis from a variety of sources and for a variety of questions and purposes.
• Advanced statistical skills using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, R, and others.
• Demonstrated experience with strategy, data-driven decision making, and cross-organizational collaboration.

• Knowledge of state and federal higher education accountability regulations and national initiatives and trends in higher education assessment.
• Shown ability to effectively apply independent judgment and professional discretion to prioritize and/or align challenging demands, solve issues, and move projects/processes forward.
• Demonstrated ability to establish relationships across an institution of higher education to work successfully and collaboratively toward common goals with a diverse range pf faculty and staff.
• Demonstrated ability to apply data-informed practices to identify and mitigate unintended bias in decision-making processes and outcomes.
• Demonstrated knowledge of data collection, analysis, and interpretation methods; experience working with both qualitative and quantitative data to inform continuous improvement, including familiarity with research design, data visualization, and statistical analysis.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing including tailoring presentations and data-rich reports to be easily understood and used by a variety of partners.
