About the Role
The team: Morningstar DBRS is registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as a nationally recognized statistical rating organization (NRSRO). This Morningstar, Inc. subsidiary has earned a reputation for innovation and excellence in the structured finance market and aims to increase market transparency by providing the highest-quality ratings, securities research, monitoring services, operational risk assessments, data, and technology solutions.
We are looking for problem solvers, analytical thinkers, and solution initiators to focus on extant asset-backed securities (ABS) transactions. This role will provide unique opportunities to learn and exposure to more than 40 segments of the ABS market as well as gaining expertise in computational and automation based processes. You will be part of a team responsible for maintaining the ratings and taking rating actions on ABS securitized assets such as auto loans, equipment leases, aircraft leases, marine containers, and many others.
The analyst selected will become an expert in surveilling a diverse portfolio of ABS sectors. Upon performing a deep dive, the analyst will formulate a memo summarizing the transaction and including cogent rationale for each proposed rating.
What You'll Do
  • Develop a strong understanding of structured finance principles, credit analysis, and ABS market fundamentals through formal training and hands-on transaction surveillance.
  • Complete the team's credit training program and, upon completion, assume responsibility for monitoring an assigned portfolio of ABS transactions.
  • Analyze collateral performance and transaction data to identify trends, assess credit risk, and support rating recommendations.
  • Prepare analytical materials and contribute to rating committees by presenting findings and supporting rating decisions.
  • Assist in the development of sector-specific research and market commentary to support industry insights and surveillance activities.
  • Build and maintain databases, perform data validation, analyze large datasets, and support enhancements to automation tools and analytical processes.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex concepts clearly.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn structured finance and credit analysis.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior internship or professional experience in structured finance, credit analysis, financial services, data analytics, or a related field.
  • Experience analyzing large datasets and drawing well-supported conclusions.
  • Familiarity with database tools, data querying, or analytical programming languages such as Python, SQL, R, or similar technologies is a nice to have.
  • Interest in process improvement, automation, and developing tools that enhance analytical efficiency.
