Job description

Direct Counsel is seeking a Junior Intellectual Property Associate (Technology Transactions) to join an Am Law firm in Minneapolis or Chicago.

This is an excellent opportunity for a junior attorney or graduating 3L interested in building a career in intellectual property and technology transactions within a collaborative, client-focused practice.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of technology-related commercial agreements

  • Support transactions involving software, SaaS, licensing, data use, and other IP-driven business arrangements

  • Conduct legal research and assist with client counseling on technology and IP matters

  • Collaborate with attorneys across practice groups on complex transactional matters

Qualifications
  • JD from an accredited law school (or current 3L graduating this academic year)

  • Up to one year of contract drafting or negotiation experience, including internships, externships, or in-house experience during law school

  • Strong academic credentials

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Bar admission in Minnesota or Illinois, eligibility to waive in, or willingness to obtain admission promptly after hire

  • Prior experience in technology, social media/e-commerce, consulting, financial services, or life sciences is a plus

Work Environment

This firm maintains a hybrid work model, with attorneys working in-office approximately three days per week to support collaboration, mentorship, and client service, while maintaining flexibility.

Compensation

Salary range: $200,000 – $235,000, depending on experience, skills, and location.
The compensation package also includes bonuses, comprehensive health and insurance benefits, and a 401(k) plan.
