Job description

Job Summary: The Director of Specialty, Retail, and 340B Pharmacy Programs provides strategic and operational leadership for specialty pharmacy services, retail pharmacy operations, and the 340B program across the health system. This role is accountable for driving growth and optimizing financial performance through patient access strategy, payer/limited-distribution navigation, revenue integrity, and margin optimization while ensuring an exceptional patient experience. The Director ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and 340B requirements, including program governance, audit readiness, contract pharmacy oversight as applicable, and medication safety and quality standards. In partnership with executive leadership, providers, finance, compliance, IT, and external partners, the Director advances new services, therapy expansion, and operational standardization, positioning pharmacy as a key enterprise asset and sustainable revenue driver.

Qualifications: BS in Pharmacy or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy required, advanced degree such as MBA, MHA, or MS preferred. Current North Carolina pharmacist license required (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire); South Carolina pharmacist licensure may be required as services expand. Five (5) years or more of progressive leadership experience in specialty pharmacy and/or retail/community pharmacy operations, including 340B oversight and multi-location responsibility. Demonstrated expertise in 340B program administration, including governance, audit readiness, split-billing/third-party administration, and contract pharmacy management. Strong knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations and relevant accreditation standards. Proven business and financial acumen, including budgeting, revenue integrity, margin optimization, contracting, and growth strategy execution. Experience improving patient access and adherence through payer navigation, prior authorization, limited-distribution networks, and patient assistance programs. Effective organizational leader with strong change-management, communication, and relationship-building skills; able to influence and partner with executive, clinical, compliance, finance, IT, and external stakeholders, as well as patients and families, physicians, and organizational leaders. Proficient with pharmacy systems and analytics to monitor KPIs, drive operational performance, and support continuous improvement.
