Role overview

Youโ€™ll transport patients between their homes and hospitals, follow safety and hospital procedures, maintain a clean vehicle environment, and support patient care through safe, respectful, and timely transportation.

What youโ€™ll do

  • Transport patients between home and hospital locations according to the daily dispatcher schedule.
  • Follow all driving policies, procedures, and rules of the road.
  • Complete patient pickup and drop-off in a timely manner based on assigned routes.
  • Notify dispatch when delays or route issues occur.
  • Recognize and report changes in patient condition.
  • Document transportation activity accurately as required.
  • Receive, inventory, and secure patient belongings when appropriate.
  • Transport patients with respect for age, gender, culture, stated preferences, privacy, and dignity.
  • Maintain a clean and safe transportation environment.
  • Follow infection control procedures and HIPAA requirements.
  • Check vehicle condition according to hospital policy.
  • Report unsafe vehicle conditions or repair needs to the Transportation Director.
  • Complete required vehicle and transportation logs.
  • Assist patients in and out of the vehicle when needed.
  • Request assistance when appropriate for patient safety.
  • Perform routine clerical tasks and other related duties as assigned.

What youโ€™ll need

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • AHA Basic Life Support certification.
  • Valid California driverโ€™s license.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
  • Customer service skills appropriate for patient transportation.
  • Current Management of Assaultive Behavior certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card for Los Angeles City employees only.
  • Bilingual communication skills preferred.
  • Previous patient transportation experience preferred.

Physical requirements

  • Constant sitting, hearing, seeing, driving, and repetitive arm or hand motions.
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, talking, and lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
