Field Surveyor - 100% Travel

Spriggs Excavation is recruiting for a full-time, 100% travel position. This role requires continuous travel to project sites across multiple states based on business needs and project schedules. Employees in this position should expect to be assigned to one location for an extended period-such as several months at a time-before transitioning to another project in a different state. For example, an assignment may begin in Texas, then move to Colorado, and later transition to New Mexico. Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to work wherever projects are located are essential requirements of this role.

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Field Surveyor to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with the Project Superintendent and Project Manager to deliver precise surveying services, ensuring construction activities are in fill compliance with design specifications and project drawings. You will also play a key role in advancing company standards and best practices for all survey-related functions.


Responsibilities:

Set up, adjust, and operate survey equipment, data collectors, and GPS systems to measure distances, elevations, and angles.

Conduct surveys to measure soil or rock grade, assessing elevations for grading and ensuring alignment with design specifications.

Read and interpret design plans, providing accurate survey data to ensure construction work meets design requirements.

Establish control networks vertically and horizontally using GPS systems.

Set up and calibrate base station poles for future use.

Install and manage survey files on GPS-equipped construction equipment such as dozers and motor graders.

Troubleshoot and resolve machine control issues.

Organize and maintain survey data, including field notes and project files, using SharePoint, Propeller, and Data Collectors.

Mentoring others in survey techniques and the use of GPS systems.


Job Requirements:

Willingness to travel up to 100% of the time to support multiple job sites across the U.S

Two-year technical engineering/surveying training or combination of high school diploma and experience. (A professional license is not required but is a plus).

Strong working knowledge of surveying equipment and techniques, including Topcon GPS, Trimble GPS, Base Stations, machine controls, and lasers.

Prior experience using Topcon products is preferred.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and design plans.

Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations.

Competence in Bluebeam, Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications.

Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.

Proficiencyin spoken and written English is a mandatory requirement for this role, as it is essential for understanding work instructions, safety protocols, andparticipatingin team communications.


Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with Propeller and Magnet software

Prior experience in a survey role supporting renewable energy projects (Wind, Solar, Substations, BESS)

Surveyor License

Drone License
