Job Summary
Purpose of Position:
The Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) Student Program Assistant will provide administrative and operational support to the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department.
This position is only open to students with Federal Work Study eligibility.
Duties and Responsibilities:

The SBS Student Program Assistant will provide administrative and operational support to the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department. Responsibilities include:

  • assisting with faculty and student communications
  • organizing departmental materials
  • supporting day-to-day office tasks
  • providing general clerical assistance
  • other duties as assigned
This position offers students the opportunity to develop professional skills in communication, organization, and higher education operations while contributing to the effective functioning of the department.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • Basic office and professional communication (email etiquette, phone manners, confidentiality)
  • Microsoft Office or Google Workspace (Word/Docs, Excel/Sheets, Outlook/Gmail)
  • Basic data entry and file organization (digital and paper)
  • Time management and task prioritization
  • Customer service skills, especially interacting with students, faculty, and staff
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Basic troubleshooting (scanning, printing, uploading documents)
Skill in:
  • Professionalism and customer service
  • Written and verbal communication
  • Telephone and computer skills (including fundamental understanding of Microsoft Office)
Ability to:
  • Manage time
  • Complete all duties while maintaining strict confidentiality
  • Attention to detail
  • Follow directions
  • Work a consistent, reliable schedule
Minimum/General Qualifications:
This position requires applicants to have Federal Work Study as part of their current Financial Aid package with Columbus State. You must also be enrolled in SIX or more credit hours in a degree or certificate program. Any applicants without Federal Work Study eligibility will not be considered for this position.
Applicants must have received a high school diploma or a certificate of attendance from an accredited secondary school or a certificate of high school equivalence and be exempt from Ohio Revised Code Chapter 4109.
Must have reliable transportation or other means to get to work regularly.
Students enrolled as Transient, College Credit Plus, Undecided, or otherwise non-degree-seeking are not considered eligible for Student Employment.
Schedule:
TBD by the needs of department and student schedule between office hours of Monday - Friday 8 am to 5 pm. Maximum 20 hours per week.
Work will be performed: On-site only.

The program consists of paid competency-based career and leadership development activities designed by Career Services. All Tier/Level III positions are automatically enrolled in this program.
