Job description

Better Living Health and Community Services has an opening for the full-time position of Activationist in our Adult Day Program. This position is responsible for developing and implementing programs for a range of seniors, including those who may have a physical disability, or who suffer from Alzheimer's disease or a related cognitive impairment.

This position reports to theSupervisor, Adult Day Program.

The successful candidate for this position must possess the following qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Social Services and Activation
  • Knowledge and experience working with seniors who are frail and or cognitive impaired seniors and adults with disabilities
  • Knowledge and experience in providing social and recreational programming for seniors and adults with disabilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members and others
  • Strong working knowledge of client documentation systems
  • Experience working both in a group setting and on a one-to -one with seniors with physical and/or cognitive challenges. Knowledge of dementia and skill in problem solving and providing a gentle persuasive approach to care
  • Possess creativity, empathy, enthusiasm, and compassion
  • Good working knowledge of Outlook, Word and other MS Office applications
  • Current First Aid & P.R. certification required
  • Successful completion of Vulnerable Sector Screening within one month of employment

The successful candidate(s) for this position must be able to:


  • Coordinate in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating program activities including culturally appropriate programs
  • Assist clients in activities of daily living such as medication reminder, toileting, transferring or directing and encouraging clients at mealtime
  • Prepare, set-up and clean-up the program, equipment and supplies
  • Facilitate recreation, social and exercise programs and supports other staff, students and volunteers who assist with these programs
  • Maintain accurate client records and statistics
  • Maintains knowledge, observes, and practices appropriate procedures in regards to Fire, Safety, Quality and environmental standards.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Provide support and accompaniment to clients to or from program on agency vehicles
  • Adhere to the Policies and Procedures as outlined in the Personnel Manual.


Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 35 hours a week

Salary: $42,816- $46,384 per annum
