A mid-sized - leading mechanical contracting company with sales of almost 30 million is in need of an accountant, due to a future retirement. This person would manage the unique financial challenges of this service and construction company, such as seasonal revenue fluctuations and complex job costing, in addition to the accounting of 3 other smaller companies. They will ensure financial accuracy while supporting operational growth through detailed reporting and internal controls. They would serve as a representative to our bank and work with other financial institutions as needed. This position will help manage a team of six others, who preform supporting accounting rolls.
Core Responsibilities-
- Job Costing & Margin Analysis:
- Monitor labor & materials, and equipment cost allocation to specific service calls or installation projects to track true profitability.
- Validate gross margins for both residential repairs and large-scale commercial contracts.
- Meet with Project Managers monthly to review job costing on large jobs
- Analyze budget-to-actual variances and investigate spending trends to improve cost control.
- Reconcile multiple bank and credit card accounts monthly
- Secure vehicle loans, manage the employee company credit cards
- Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Oversee accounts payable and invoice processing for HVAC equipment and parts.
- Manage cash flow and make all payments
- Oversee customer billing, including progress billing for long-term installations and recurring maintenance contract revenue.
- Meet weekly with the Collections Specialist to review past due accounts, prepare & file Mechanic’s liens
- Payroll & Commissions:
- Process weekly payrolls for all employees in 4 sister companies
- Assist in preparation of Prevailing wage reports
- Submit BWC payments
- Submit New hire reporting
- Prepare & Submit 401K and Health Savings Account weekly deposits and reports
- Prepare and submit 401K year end audit information
Required Qualifications
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required.
- Experience: Candidates will need a minimum of 10 years of accounting experience, ideally in the construction or field service industries.
- Software Proficiency:
- Advanced skills in Excel and specialized accounting software especially Deltek Computer Ease.
- Certifications: A CPA certification is a plus, but not required
