Job description

Description JOB OVERVIEW: The City of Upper Arlington operates Therapeutic Recreation (TR) programs for individuals with disabilities, including a TR Fun Club for adults, a youth arts & crafts program, a unified pickleball program, and more. Under the supervision of the Recreation Manager and assigned Program Director, the purpose of this position is to assist with implementation of various adaptive programs to individuals with special needs. This is a part-time year-round position.

Examples of Duties EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Uphold the goals and objectives of assigned program(s). Support the Program Director to implement a successful experience for all participants enrolled. Ability to effectively communicate and support individuals with physical and or developmental disabilities.

Review and understand all documentation related to participants. Monitor program environment for the safety of all attendees. Supervise participants of assigned program(s), while also promoting an atmosphere which encourages independence and self-actualization of participants as much as possible.

Able to assist participants in a variety of settings, including community outings. Model appropriate behavior management strategies and successful transitioning between planned activities (especially for participants on Autism Spectrum). Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.

Performs other duties as required. Typical Qualifications TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: At least two years of college education with emphasis in special education, recreational therapy, Adapted PE, Psychology, Social Work, or other Health Science/Therapy studies. Candidates with any combination of education, training and experience equivalent will be considered.

CPR certification: First Aid certification - Training may be provided to hired candidates who are not currently certified.
