Job description

Description Performs a variety of tasks related to the planning and implementation of recreation programs and events. Examples of Duties Plans, coordinates, and facilitates a variety of recreation programs at the Hopewell Community Center and throughout the city; assists with special events as assigned; assists with patron monitoring and support at the Hopewell Community Center Coordinates use of space in the Hopewell Community Center; assists with setup and break down for programs and classes; performs basic facility maintenance to assist with facility cleanliness Prepares reports for the Recreation Programs Manager regarding program quality, supplies, attendance, and other necessary data points Works with outside vendors for the delivery of specialty programs at the Hopewell Community Center; assists with scheduling outside vendors; coordinates supply and equipment needs Acts as lead staff member of the recreation programs team Assists the Recreation Programs Manager and Recreation Supervisors with other programs as required Typical Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED and at least one year experience working with youth programs, special events, or other recreation program areas; Associate degree or other higher education experience in related field preferred Licenses and/or Certifications: Valid VA driver's license CPR, AED, and First Aid certification must be obtained within six months Knowledge: General knowledge of recreation programs, community center activities, and youth programs Skills: Customer service and oral communication skills Basic organization skills Abilities: Ability to perform physically strenuous sports activities with participants Ability to work in a variety of settings, including gyms and outdoor areas Ability to work with the general public Ability to work with specific age groups such as ages 3-17, 18-49 and 50+ Supplemental Information Essential Physical Activities: Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing -up close, seeing far away, kneeling, pushing, talking, standing, fingering, repetitive motions Typical weight handled: up to 25lbs DISCLAIMER: The above information on this description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.
