Job description

Primary Position Objectives

Responsible for the supervision of staff and students to ensure a safe and secure operation of activities in the recreation area and supervises code of conduct in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the behavior management system. Must be available evenings and weekends.
Brief Description of Duties
  • Establishes and operates a Center-wide diversified recreation program. Develop and implement programs to promote productive and socially acceptable use of leisure time.
  • Assist students in understanding and developing lifelong leisure time skills and habits.
  • Implement programs that build students' self-esteem by developing teamwork, good sports conduct, and other positive social behaviors.
  • Promote lifelong health through physical activity and exercise.
  • Monitors activities for individuals and groups to include tournament competition and varsity and intramural competition for the athletic-minded students.
  • Provides oversight of plans for recreation activities for students not participating in athletic events.
  • Develop and maintain a calendar of recreational activities and events and distribute the schedule to students in advance of the activities listed.
  • Supervises the development of the instructional programs to teach students new skills and to improve existing skills.
  • Monitors the scheduling and development of various clubs and special interest groups and individual activities for disabled students.
  • Ensure that all water-related activities are supervised by certified lifeguards. Require the use of the buddy system in all swimming activities, and the use of personal flotation devices in all boating activities.
  • Seek gainful leisure time employment opportunities for students so long as the employment does not interfere with training activities.
  • Approves requisitions for recreational equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Oversees the maintenance of recreational equipment, both indoor and outdoor.
  • Works cooperatively with entire Center staff in the solution of students' problems.
  • Ensures contacts with outside sources for recreational activities are maintained.
  • Serves as the Center's source of information for recreational activities for students, ensuring continuous outgoing development of materials and knowledge about this part of the program.
  • Provides media, bulletin boards and memoranda to inform students, as well as staff, of the programs to be held at the Center.
  • Interview students/conduct quarterly surveys to determine what type of recreational activities would be most suitable.
  • Creates an environment wherein students and staff feel safe and secure.
  • Submits required reports to the appropriate department head.
  • Submits time sheets and other paperwork timely and according to center policy.
  • Assists and trains student leaders per center policy. Works closely with the SGA program.
  • Assists in the management and operation of the student café.
  • Recognizes and reinforces positive behavior with staff and students.
  • Adheres to required property control policies and procedures.
  • Maintains good housekeeping in all areas and complies with safety practices.
  • Demonstrates and abides by Serrato Corporation's core values and operating principles.
  • Models, mentors, monitors appropriate Career Success Standards.
  • Helps students become more employable through continuous reinforcement.
  • Evaluates personnel under his/her management and makes recommendations regarding disciplinary actions, promotions and/or merit increases.
  • Assists the Center Director in meeting the goals and objectives of the Center.
  • Participates in PRH mandated staff training. Failure to participate may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
  • Follows CDSS plan and Code of Conduct system daily.
  • Complies with all DOL guidelines, OFCCP regulation, Quality Assurance Plan (QAP) Serrato policies and procedures, Job Corps notices and bulletins, and Center policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience
Minimum two years working with youth, or related experience and/or training, including supervisory experience.
Education
Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university in a related field.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid Driver's License, Commercial Driver's License (must obtain a Class B CDL Driver's License within 60 days of employment).
