Job description

The GIS Survey Technician will perform GIS data analytics, manipulation, transformation, development and mapping utilizing ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and other GIS software packages as required.  They will execute technically complex land surveying assignments. The Survey Technician will also review survey maps and documents to assess technical accuracy and compliance with local, state, and federal property laws and regulations.

Employees, Managers, and Supervisors throughout the corporation, and various external customers, vendors, consultants, and governmental regulatory officials.

  • Use geospatial software to analyze field survey data and produce visualizations, reports, and mapping deliverables.
  • Research public records (county, city, and other sources) and online resources to collect data on easements, deeds, and other pertinent information.
  • Prepare working sketches for field crews using researched data and reference materials.
  • Process field data using Trimble Business Center and prepare files for import into AutoCAD.
  • Create survey base drawings using field data (points), sketches, photos, and reference maps.
  • Utilize AutoCAD to produce subdivision maps, ALTA surveys, topographic surveys, and other survey-related exhibits.
  • Prepare legal descriptions and exhibits for rights-of-way, easements, and acquisition parcels.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage the company’s data library and enterprise databases.
  • Transform and prepare data deliverables to meet client requirements and quality standards.
  • Prepare specialty maps for internal and external clients.
  • Collaborate with project managers and team leads to determine best methods and practices to meet client needs.
  • Perform QA/QC on all work, including that prepared by others.
  • Complete additional mapping, records.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB SKILL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Basic knowledge of ESRI products, including ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Enterprise
  • Ability to lead tasks to meet client needs and deliverables, while working under direct supervision
  • Strong attention to detail for accurate GIS data entry and database maintenance
  • Ability to review work for accuracy and completeness, and proactively recommend improvements
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships
  • Working knowledge or ability to learn land surveying methodologies, formulas, principles, and techniques
  • Strong understanding of mathematics used in field survey analysis
  • Ability to apply technical report writing standards and computer-assisted surveying applications
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, title reports, and legal descriptions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related reporting tools

Topographic OM, Inc. in office Standard business hours is Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm.

The specific schedule for this role will be based on location and department.

Must be authorized to work in the United States.
