Job description

Primary Responsibilities

The Security Technician is responsible for installing project specific devices to the standards of all fire alarm, building and electrical codes. The installation technician will also mentor, train and coach the entry level technician who assists them on jobsites.ย 

Essential Functions

  • Must be able to bend, kneel, stoop, crawl, climb ladders both caged and un-caged as well as stairs and other equipment.
  • Required to stand and walk
  • Maximum unassisted lift = 75lbsย 
  • Must be able to safely drive company owned vehicle or personal vehicle for the purpose of IPS business.
  • Use computers, laptops, and specialized interface and/or programming software to program and set up security, access, CCTV, nurse call, or sound systems and associated devices
  • Have manufacturer certifications pertaining to systems being programmed
  • Coordinate with assigned project manager and/or other trades for completing projects and work orders efficiently and on time
  • Monitor the installation work of outside contractors for ensuring that the projects are satisfactory completed to state and local codes, regulations, and project specifics
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose causes of system problems or failures in systems and identify equipment and/or system requiring repair
  • Perform regular system inspections including evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventative maintenance
  • Analyze blue prints and drawings
  • Install project specific cabling or piping per specifications and applicable building, electrical, and fire alarm codes
  • Install project specific devices including Fire, Suppression, CCTV, Intrusion, Access, Nurse Call, etc. per specifications and applicable building, electrical, and fire alarm codes
  • Must be able to โ€œfishโ€ walls and run EMT and PVC conduit for basic applications
  • Must be able to coach, mentor and train entry level techniciansย 
  • Maintain assigned tools, vehicle and equipment
  • Follow company mandated safety policies
  • Communicate with others verbally and in writing
  • Work off lifts of all sizes and heights, and obtain lift certification
  • Use and understand company software for completion of service tickets, logging time, and obtaining job specific information
  • Obtain and Maintain necessary licenses and certification
  • Attend job specific training session
  • Willing to work after normal business hours and weekends
  • Periodically travel out of normal service area when necessary
  • Willing to learn new products and services
  • Attend manufacturer and company specified training programsย 
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of integrity and honesty
  • Must have a demeanor to tolerate a variety of customer personalities
  • Must demonstrate excellent people skills

  • Must be able to occasionally travel out of townย 

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Must have 3-5 years of experience as an entry level technician or related industry experience
  • OSHA-10 hour certification
  • Must be efficient and productive in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to navigate company software, enter data, and send communication. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel a plus.ย 
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills for both internal and external customers
  • Must be able to operate hand and power tools
  • Must be able to unload, carry, and climb ladders
  • OSHA-10 hour certification
  • Must maintain First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Must maintain lift, confined space, and other required safety certifications
