Where does a blacksmith work?

Some blacksmiths choose to work on industrial projects, meaning they work for companies and factories that make products like fire escapes, security grills, and specialist tools. Others focus more on the creative and architectural aspects of blacksmithing and work on things like decorative iron gates, furniture, or commissioned pieces. These blacksmiths are typically self-employed and sell their goods at craft shows and galleries. There are other employment opportunities for blacksmiths as well. Some perform work as part of fairs or Civil War reenactments. Those who are interested in education and academia may become instructors in blacksmithing programs. Blacksmithing isn’t nearly as common as it used to be. However, blacksmiths can still find employment in numerous different industries that require iron and metalwork.
