Where do neonatologists work?

As a neonatologist, you work where the newborns are: in maternity wards, special care nurseries, and newborn intensive care units in university hospitals, children’s hospitals, and community hospitals. Most neonatologist jobs are in large urban hospitals, so you may have some newborn patients who transfer in from smaller suburban or rural community medical centers. After you discharge your newborn patients from the hospital, you may provide follow-up care on an outpatient basis. You coordinate with the baby’s pediatrician to provide ongoing care if necessary.
